Flight of the Conchords

In celebration of my favorite magazine putting my favorite guys on their cover, I thought it would be fitting to have you check out a little peek at my favorite episode from their show. It is the "Bowie" episode.

These make me pee my pants laughing! Enjoy!

The Fair

Ah yes, it's that time of year. Upstate New Yorker's know what I'm talking about. Well that is everyone outside of the New York City suburbs.....

The New York State Fair

A week and a 1/2 of sausage sandwiches, beer, good and bad music and oh yes, farm animals, food, and rides! What's not to love?

I don't usually like going to the fair. I don't like crowds. But this year I am going. Why? Cause of these guys:

Who are they? Why they are The Flaming Lips that's who. I am soooooo excited. If you have never seen them live, RUN! Get your tickets now!!!! They are most excellent. Oh I guess I should mention the rest of the line up: Sonic Youth (not one of my fave's - hubby loves them), Ween (again, they are mildly entertaining) and The Magic Numbers (don't know anything about them)

Typically the Fair draws your country music crowd. I am not really properly equipped to appreciate the country music that is played at the fair. Give me some alt country or the old stuff any day (don't want to appear a snob....)

Oh and my big brother is in town from California for a week! Wahoo! I don't know what I will be getting done this weekend......I am almost done with the shawl. THANK YOU ALL for your very encouraging comments! I really have a bad feeling that I will run out of yarn. I will let you all know on Tuesday or Wednesday. Holiday weekend coming up! I am off tomorrow and Monday!

Have fun!

I have been tagged

Thank you Erin for tagging me!

1. Total amount of music files on your computer:

300 or so, give or take.

2. The last CD you bought was:

That is a hard one. I usually burn them from somebody or I got a crap load of free ones from a friend who does record reviews. I don’t really know what I bought last!

3. What is the song that you last listened to before reading this:

Some Whiskeytown song (thanks to Stacey), I love Ryan Adams. He is such a brat!

4. What are your five favorite songs and why they mean the most to you:

Song to the Siren – This Mortal Coil, if you have never heard Elizabeth Fraser sing, then I feel bad for you. She has the voice of an angel.

Moonlight Mile – The Rolling Stones, all around great song.

Pretty much every thing on Bee Thousand – Guided By Voices

Pretty much every thing on The Hounds of Love – Kate Bush

Salsbury Hill – Peter Gabriel, why because he is F*****G great.

I have a lot of songs that are my absolute favorite, these where the ones that popped into my head first.

5. What 3 people would you pass this baton on to and why?

Kris - Strikker
Crystal - Knit Freak
Stacey - Too Many Scarves

Why? Because it doesn’t look like they were tagged. They will probably hate me now.

It's that time again!

I am so freakin excited!
I am going to see him

uncle bob

Opening up for them is non other than the fabulous CHAVEZ

I sorta feel like a dead head groupie, but I'm not! This is the last time I will be seeing them as Guided by Beers (sniffle sniffle) Ah who knows, alot of bands say they are breaking up then get back together because they need the money!

I just noticed that my favorite alpaca below has eyelashes's!!! How cute is he/she now?

Oh, is anyone out there going to be at this show on Saturday? It is in NYC, I would love to meet any fellow knit bloggers and GBV fans!

Rock on.

Yep, you heard it here first! My husband and I are going to see Guided By Voices in Cleveland on October 23rd! Woo Hoo! It is my husband's birthday that day, and perhaps a trip to the Rock-N-Roll Hall of fame? I was hoping we would see them again before they broke up. They are a great band to see live.

DJ Smithmix

My friend Craig is brilliant. We trade our Mix's. I have been trying to make a mix every month, but it is more like every 2 months. He just gave to me his winter mix. It has on it a beautiful song by a beautiful singer, Elizabeth Fraser. She was in the Cocteau Twins. This is a re-make of a song she did for This Mortal Coil and the song is "Song to the Siren". Now I loved the song she did way back when (I know it's a cover too) But this version gives me chills all over again. She is so great. LOVE HER. And Craig too. Norm's mix is brilliant too! I will put up the track listings when I can.

(5) Rocket Machine Opal
(6) John Brown Masters Of Reality

(11) Your Silent Face New Order
(12) Peek-A-Boo Devo

I really do believe I captured "My 80's" well! I was listening to this in the car and I got real happy when the Cure came on. You will notice #6 is by a band Masters of Reality, some of you have heard of them, some of you may not have. But if you were hanging around Syracuse, NY in the mid 80's you would of seen these guys. I couldn't wait for them to play! They were like a goth/rock/blues band. They didn't play a lot out, they liked to keep them selves a mystery. But boy when they did, everyone went to see them. Lotta fun.

Christmix Mix 2003

This is the track listing for What I am listening to in my car right now. There is definately a pattern here. When you buy a cd, there may be 1 or 2 or even 3 songs that you really like (right away) and the other is crap, or you have to listen to it some more, or it is all good. Well when I make a mix these are the songs I like right away. I think if you looked at my latest mixes though you would see a pattern. I love Jay Farrar, Ryan Adams is only 1/2 good. He is really a whinney show off, but he can write some good songs. I LOVE Wilco, Of course GBV (sniffle) and The Black Keys are incredible. Neko Case LOVE HER!! So every now and then you will see my "Lists" of Mixes. Check back from time to time, there could be more contests!
Christmix 2003
Mahgeetah My Morning Jacket
Prelude (Make It Alright) Jay Farrar

Today is a sad day.....

My husband (a bigger geek than me) just informed me that our beloved Guided By Voices is breaking up!!! Sigh......What to do? I am not too worried. Bob won't let me down. He is going to go solo. He is what I go to see anyway!

The person who answers this question will get my January 2004 mix -o- month and or my Feb. 2004 Mix. What was the name of the robot on Buck Rogers Space adventure (that old tv show from the late 70's) He went "Beedy Beedy Beedy Beedy" I don't know the answer so Any one could win. But if any one knows I am dying to find out. This is also a good way to see if anyone is reading this.

New Music - Hooray!

I bought a couple of cd's this weekend. The new "Iron & Wine" and "Jem". I like both, but I am glad that I bought Jem used. She is a bit hip hoppy for me, but I like the smoothness of her voice. Iron & Wine is very good. If you like Nick Drake and Simon and Garfunkle you will like this. They are on Sub Pop too. I was supposed to go see a band this weekend but that fell through. Ah well.
