I got nothin....
Nothing I tell you! I will have a nice FO for next week though. My sweater is coming together nicely.
AND....
It FITS me! YAY!
Seeing as how I got nothing to share I thought I would share this:
Most of you will recognize this as my Ravelry Icon. Well today is April Fools day and we all have goofy things on our heads. I was so happy to see that I had a FEZ! You see I collect them. Fez hats that is. I collect Fez hats. Perhaps I will show you sometime. I have 3!
So there, it was something. But not what you were expecting.
See you Friday! (you all know what that is....)

Blog fodder
Hey! Thanks for the comments on my glasses! I have responded to most of you and I think I said:
"Boys DO make passes at girls who wear glasses"
Right? Well they do. I will leave it at that.
So did you ever work somewhere where there was one person who totally got your sense of humor or personality? Then you become good friends and they make your work day ever so much better? I have many friends like that. (Lemon! I miss you a ton)
Well I have a friend Carol, who comments on my blog and doesn't even knit. She appreciates my knitting though. Carol has to be one of the funniest people I know. She turns me on to Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, I turn her on to Flight of the Conchords. We talk in silly British accents or old Jewish lady accents all the time at work. So now we are into the whole Twilight thing. (I turned her on to it - she hates Bella though...) I also let her borrow the movie Marie Antoinette. You know the one with Kristin Dunst. I love that movie. The music is awesome. The costumes were beautiful and Kristin Dunst, well, she could have at least spoke in a fake British accent like me! She wasn't great, but I still liked the movie.
Well our local museum had an exhibition of Marie Antoinette inspired clothing. We had to go. The exhibit was eh...okay...
I couldn't take any pictures and I wanted to because they had a sheep mannequin with a crown on it's head. I tried to be sneaky, but the musuem guard was right there! Okay, so we check out the museum. Downstairs they have a room just for kids. The museum is totally dead. So Carol and I decide to "play"

I say! Let them eat cake!
Carol says: Cake or death!!!! Death! No I mean cake! Yes Cake!!!
Moving right along...we found a "dress up" room. Well what would you do if nobody was around?
Yep! Then a grown up showed up with some kiddo's. He took the picture for us!
I was able to sneak this photo:
There was no sign saying I couldn't and the guard wasn't around. How cool is this? Now I know what to do with all those knitting needles that don't have mates! Um yeah right.
Hey, at least some of this is knitting releated!

You like me! You really like me!
Well, I know not everyone likes me, but I do know that Laurie
likes me 'cause she gave me an award!

I want to give this award to Laurie too 'cause that girl makes me laugh a ton!
So now I am supposed to pass this along to the blogs I like. There are so many. I am only supposed to choose 4, but like Laurie, I don't like to follow the rules either.
Here are my favorites:
Christie
She can crank out a sweater in no time. You have to love that. Oh and when she becomes a famous actress she is going to thank me when she gets "THE" award.
Maryse
Her pictures are stunning and she makes me laugh. How can you not love that?
Kris
I think Kris became one of my first blog buddies. It's weird, but we tend to knit the same stuff. At least we won't be showing up at the same parties with the same thing on! (she's in Norway) I love her blog and her photography
Celtic Cast On
She makes little itty bitty sweaters that fit her and look fabulous on her to boot. Oh and she takes pretty pictures
kit kat knit
She is a fellow spinner. Love her knitting and spinning. Um, another one who takes really nice mouth watering photos...
Alison
I bet she doesn't know this, but I started reading her blog when she was in oh god, where was she again? Indonesia! There. That is broad. Love her knitting and her stories. Would love to meet her some day. She takes good pictures too.
Terhi
I want to be Terhi when I grow up. I want her to give me every pair of socks she has ever made. Truly an excellent knitter. And she takes pretty photo's.
Cosy
Here is a new blog to me that I started reading for a couple of months. She is a knitter and a spinner and an author! AND she posts a lot. I like that. Oh and she takes good pictures too.
I like some good photography!
So now here are the "rules"
Here are the rules for the award recipients:
1. Please put the award on your blog.
2. Add a link to the person who awarded you.
3. You must nominate at least 4 fellow bloggers for this award.
4. Add links to the recipients.
5. Leave a comment so the recipients know they have received an award.
I think I can do this. Pass on the love.
I leave you with some spindle spun and plyed 100% Alpaca and a fat cat
she is so pretty:
She was taking a bath. Have a nice weekend!

I wish I had some knitting to show
But I don't. And I didn't want to go a week with out saying
HI!
Let's see what's new with me? Well, 3 deer decided to cut through our yard this morning. It was kinda neat. I tried to get some good shots but I shook the camera too much and they were quick. This one is kinda cool

I don't know why it's so dark. It wasn't dark out. Look at those eyes! Freaky deaky!
I think I know why I don't have much knitting.... I have been trying to resist, but I have finally succumbed....

Me a grown woman! I wasn't able to put this down all week! Well now I am on the second book "New Moon". And to make matters worse I have to wait until November 21st to watch the movie.
I don't know about you but Edward Cullen is one of the hottest vampires out there right now!

Stacey and I have been having nice e-mail conversations about why us more mature women like this story! We want to be 17 again!
Nah.....I am just lusting over this actor who is probably old enough to be my son.
sigh....

Do you believe in fairies? Then clap your hands!
Part of me says: What the heck! Why not jump in the ring! But I wanna come back!
What in the world am I talking about? Well, it sure looks like a fairy ring to me! Although it is lacking one or two mushrooms....
Fun with the macro setting:
Okay, never mind. I know I need to mow my lawn...
So I started a new project
It's a..... shawl.... like I need to start another one of those...
What's wrong with me? Why am I starting so many things and not finishing them? This I will finish soon. I am almost done already! Didn't I say that about the February Lady Sweater too?
sigh.....
Oh! I also got another spindle
But we all knew THAT would happen. I purchased it from a friend/guild member. She MADE it! Isn't it cute?

Cars, underpants, spinning wheels....
Went to a car show this weekend.
saw some really pretty cars....
couldn't afford any of um....
I saw this too at the car show
Now what would you do if you were me? Yup! I found out who this belonged to I did! Turns out she is one of the judges at the car show! She was kinda busy so I didn't take up much of her time.
I did some knitting too this weekend. I finished a quarter of the Alpine Shrug. I can't help but think that this looks like Giant Underpants.....
I sure hope when I get the other 3 parts of this done it will look a little better....
Oh and you know what it means that it is now June right? My new sock:
starting early.

Cats, Crochet and Fireworks
Well perhaps I should just stick to knitting or crocheting instead of book reviews. Or perhaps everyone was too busy this weekend? 2 comments on my book review. Sigh... Was it really that bad? Like I said, I will try to stick to the knitting/crocheting/spinning.
Let's see where do I begin? I don't believe I have told any of you the latest on my poor kitty Suki. She's the fat one. Well we know why now. SHE HAS DIABETES!!!!! Poor thing! Here is a before shot when she weighed 18 pounds! Yes 18 lbs.

We just discovered this last Monday. She was at the Vet for 2 days so they could regulate her insulin. They shaved her neck!
How undignified! She is very modest. So we have to give her special food and insulin shots 2 times a day. Yes, with a needle. Sigh.... to top that off Mr. Big Geek had to leave town this weekend! (he comes back tonight thank the lord) So I have been giving her the shots. It's really not that bad. In fact I think it may be easier than giving her a pill. They don't feel it really. You sick it in their backs. They have a lot of skin back there.
So she is slowly getting better, I hope. Here she is now:
She weighs 10 3/4 lbs. She can almost fit into her bikini.
*** NOTE ***
Suki lost this weight over 6 months. She didn't loose it in a week. I forgot to mention it in this post. Sorry!
I actually managed some knitting and crocheting this weekend. I knit a ton more on my brown comfort shawl. I am hoping that will be done soon. No picture of that. It's just a big pile of brown yarn.
I also managed to whip out this cute little hat:
Specs:
Pattern: Tam - from the book: Get Your Crochet On-Hip Hats and Cool Caps by Afya Ibomu
Yarn: Various left over scraps of yucky acrylic yarn
Hook: US H
I love how it turned out, however, I am not happy with the stiffness of the fabric. I am hoping when I wash it it MAY soften up. I used acrylic yarn because the pattern called for it. I seem to end up with this type of yarn when people die. What is it with old people and acrylic yarn? I know it was cheap and all, but you can't tell me that wool was that much more expensive. Maybe it was easier to care for back then? It didn't shrink when you wash it? Whatever it is I always end up with the little balls. So I made this hat. I am thinking when I pass on, someone is going to get a GREAT stash of yarn. And a great library. Ahem, but that won't be for a LONG LONG time right?
Oh! I started a new project too!
It is the Alpine Shrug from Rowan Magazine 42. I am using Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick. The yarn is $6.00 a ball so I am buying a little at a time and using coupons. I feel like being cheap with this. I think I am going to like this project. I am using size 15 needles (they are pink bake lite needles and it feels like I am knitting with Barbie legs....) so it's going to be a quick one. I hope. I am liking what I see at Ravelry on this project.
I am going to leave you with this:
Doesn't it look like an ostrich? My best friend had a great cook out Sunday. The weather was perfect! They also do fireworks every year and I always take pictures.
Over and out.

Hobby Hands 2
This time it was my turn to host
We had a much larger turn out! And different Hobbies! Let's see Helen was there doing needle felting with her husband Mike (on the right)He also did some needle felting. He made big meatball like balls for his drums. Stephanie on the left was doing linoleum block printing (she was using the digging out tool) Margaret brought her crocheting, Mr. Louis (next to Stephanie) brought a model to make. I did some spinning, My mother in law brought a foot stool to re "web". My husband worked on his model and my son played his nintendo ds (not very hobby like).
Everyone brought a dish to pass. Mr. Big Geek made spaghetti sauce, I made the meatballs and cooked up sausage, Helen and Mike brought a big salad(the size of Idaho)Stephanie brought yummy bread sticks, Margaret and Mr. Louis brought these:
mmmmmm..... peanut butter cups.....mmmmm.....
Over all a successful Hobby Hands! Lot's of laughs and good food.
OH! I also finished my Pippi Elf Knee Sock! Just one though.... I did start the other so I hope to have finished pictures next week.

Star struck!
Everyone get's a little star struck at times and I for one am one of them. First of all a girl I was on tv with (remember that????) has a new book, yes BOOK !!! coming out in July! You all must buy a copy!

OH MY GOD I KNOW HER!!!!!
YAY Toni!!!!
How cool is that????? I am really so happy for her. I can't wait to get it.
Secondly, my son and I were in a local mexican restaurant in my little suburb, minding our own business and This Guy

Was right behind us with his band!!!! Yeah, so who the hell is he? Well he was in Anthrax! Remember that hair band from the 80's? I kept telling "Not So Little Geek" to say something to them or him (like I was gonna) He was so funny! My son that is, he kept looking at them out of the corner of his eye. You would think it was Led Zepplin or something! I thought it was pretty cool.... I mean the guy was old and all, but still rocks.
Alright, enough of my star talk. Here is the knitting content. Wanna know how many pictures I took of my self in my Sam Kinison hat??? click here And those were the good ones!
Have a great weekend! I'm gonna rock out!

These Guys are creating many ha ha's at my house. I especially love the David Bowie episode! I am also not sure which boy I have a crush on more Bret or Jemaine.
I keep forgeting to mention this blog:
Secret Lentil
She is a friend of mine and makes the most incredible clothing! Check it out. You may even see something I made her!
I love love love this site:
My day isn't complete if I don't visit it. I also proudly own all the magazines too.
Oh I almost forgot:
Really. How could I be so stupid?
And another thing.... I am dreaming of these mittens:

I am back and rested. Or am I?
I actually got back last Wednesday, but really..... I am back in the saddle. Phew! I needed that trip! I went out to see my brother in California and I took my son with me. Mr. Big Geek had to stay home this trip.
I have so many great pictures from the trip I would love to share, but I fear you would be bored to tears so I will stick to a couple and show you fiber related only. Or if you insist....
Here is my son in his first ride in a convertable

What a funny kid!
There were fresh flowers in my room from my SIL's rose farm

My bro lives in the middle of nowhere, but it sure is purty. These are the "Butes" I hope I spelled that right

He let me drive his car..... once.....

What? It didn't have power steering or power brakes! I didn't want to reck it! But it sure is cool!
My SIL took me to an alpaca farm and I got up close with these guys! I loved him because he looks like a panda bear.

I guess this guy really isn't smiling. He isn't too happy. So I took his picture and left it alone.

The owner of the farm, whom, I forgot her business card.... gave me some fiber! How sweet was that! I can't wait to try it out! It is from a baby alpaca she said.

I took my sock along on my trip and I really didn't work on it much. This is how far I am since being back. (almost there)

I did manage to find 2 yarn stores in Chico, CA. Which was about an hour away. I picked up some Wild Foot sock yarn in "Brown Sugar" I got this at Heartstrings Yarn Studio (Chico)

I also bought some roving and some acid dye and duh, I dunno where I bought it. I will find all that later and let you know. The guy at the yarn shop I got it at was really really nice and I want everyone to know about it! Unfortunately he doesn't have a web site. But I can give you the address when I find the card. They sell knitting, crochet, weaving and spinning supplies! Wahoo!
Finally, this is pretty much all I did on my vacation. Splash in the pool.

It's good to go away and good to be back.

Random stuff
I wasn't sure which category to put this post under. So I chose "Life"
I have not thanked you all for your very nice comments on my sweater!
Thank you! I will be e-mailing you all, if I hadn't already. Not that there are many to e-mail, but I like to respond back when I can.
I think it's nice.
Okay, so what's new with me?
Well, I have 1 sock done. Which sock? The "Spiral Boot Sock" of course. I did not take a picture yet because I want to show a picture of the full finished project. Photo styled and everything. Yeah right...
I must say this is my favorite sock so far! I have even cast on for the second one! As I should.
I wanted to share a couple of recent purchases I have made. Here is the first

Yes, that's right, I PURCHASED this. I did not make it. (just making things clear...) I got it at my favorite vintage store. I have been eyeballing this for a long long time. And it is finally mine! Yes, MINE! Isn't it the sweetest little capelet you have ever seen? Well I think it is. I would love to figure this pattern out. It doesn't look too difficult.
My next purchases were all from gift cards from my birthday

Yes, I had a VERY NICE BIRTHDAY!!! I love Amazon. I would marry it.
So I got some great books, there is one book though I am going to send back and that is the Twinkle Book. I looked at it before I bought it but I wish I looked a little closer. All the patterns are for 12-14 year old girls with no "girls" if you know what I mean. Not everyone in the world is SKINNY you know. Sigh....... but I am hoping to exchange it for something better. Well I could make the hat and scarves in the book. At least I know they will fit. Right?
Lastly, I got these at the Dollar store

Guess how much they were? Come on guess!
Yep! A DOLLAR!!
I crack my self up.
ARRRRRGGGGG!!!!!!

Good Stuff
I had a crap week last week. Everyone has them. So when I came home on Friday and found a box that was for me, I got very excited.
See, I won a contest over at Sweet Georgia's. YEP!!!!! Me! I WON!!! YIPIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!
Now all I had to do was guess where she was going on her trip(hiatus). I guessed right, me and a couple of others.... and she sent me this:

Which I would have been more than happy with! But also included in the box was this:

SWOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really, she should have just stopped at the 1 skein, but I also found this:

OH MY! It's called "Fairy Floss" and it is lace weight mohair!
All of this wonderful stuff is hand dyed by
Sweet Georgia's herself. I have been drooling over it for quite some time now. I really really want to thank her! (which I will) She made my day, week, month.
Thank you! It meant a lot to me.

Hey guess what?
I joined an "ALONG" and I think it is PERFECT for me!

You can read all about it here. You may have to scroll down a bit to read my entry, which isn't that exciting. I mean not as much as all the other stuff that people are makeing over there. But I figured it would kick my ass to start and finish the mittens. Which, by the way I am much futher ahead on than the picture shows.
Oh and guess what? It is contest time! Yep. Right here. Now I am really not one to whore for comments so this is why I thought I would wait until now. But I am almost to 3,000 comments for this here blog. I appreciate each and every comment (well not the sex ones) and I would like to thank you for leaving comments on this blog. If you are the 2,999th and 3,000th commenter I would like to give 1 each to those 2 people the following:
To the 2,999th I would like to give JAH RASTAFARI

And to the 3,000th commenter I would like to give:

I haven't named the yarn. But it is 100% Alpaca and it is N-I-C-E. Both skeins are hand spun by yours truly
My only rules are that you have to knit or weave or craft or something. I don't want to give this to someone who isn't going to use it or will regift it. Oh and if you make something with it, you have to take a picture and send it to me. That isn't too much to ask is it?
So what are you waiting for! Leave some comments!
;-)
And thank you for visiting me!

I am STRESSED!!!!
It's not even Thanksgiving and I am already feeling the pressure....
I guess I really need to slow down. I do this every year. I see things I want to make for Christmas and I PANIC. I just need to breathe....in and out......
Has anyone seen the new issue of Cutting Edge Magazine? Are those Christmas Ornaments not the cutest? Well, I thought... I could make one of those!

Perhaps I should stick to what I know I can do. Knit and spin. Okay it doesn't look too bad... it's a little lumpy and choppy. And I do need to add the little jingle bell and the ribbon. Perhaps my next one will look a little better.....
I don't know what I am worried about. I have like a billion hats done.....

Okay so there are 7. Not a billion. I do these while watching Lost. (Love that show) The top 3 are all handspun yarn too! Why am I showing these? I don't know. I don't even know who I will give them to.
Oh, I have some secret knitting done too. Wanna see it?

Can't tell what it is can ya? Well I am not telling either. What I can say is that it is my gift project for my spinning guild. It's done and blocked. Just need the ends woven in.... That's all I am saying. (Some of them read this blog.)
Oh and I started another one

Hey! It's for my son! He has been begging for one for a while. I thought I could wip this out for him for Christmas. I think it can be done. Do you think I could make another one for hubby? I am going to try.....
I did have a little "ME" time on Saturday. I went (BY MYSELF) to an Alpaca farm that is in the area. I LOVE THESE CREATURES!
Look at them all!

And this one....

It was all I could do not to take it home! But I didn't have like 15 grand on me.

I am a big big piece of S H I T
Yes, I am. TURD! Why?
Today is my wedding anniversary. I forgot! Well, WE forgot. I got to work and started typing a letter, I put the date at the top and I realized it was our anniversary. Quick call to the hubby and he forgot too! Romance is gone! Ahhhhhh!!!!!!! Nooooo!!!!!!!!! I had a good post too. But I will save that for later in the week.
What's that you say? How many years? 13. Thirteen wonderful years! I love you honey! He doesn't even read this.
So on to the knitting........
Wanna see my shawl?

And no it isn't done. I have about 100 more stitches to go. Why am I dragging my feet?

ARRRRRGGGGGGGGGG! Yes, another one!
Thanks for all your nice comments on my pink yarn! Oh and a better Anniversary post this week to come.... stay tuned.....
over and out

See? I told you I am back!
I have been seeing a lot of you out there in Blogland haul out your sewing machines and sew some truly beautiful clothing, bags, toys etc... I am a big time band wagon jumper on-er. So here she is:

Would you believe this machine is older than me? It was my mother's. She gave this to me years ago (like 12 or 15) I have used it, but nothing really serious. I haven't sewn a garment since my 4-H days. I loved 4-H. Right up until I was in highschool then thought it wasn't cool. Too bad for me. I learned to sew and cook in 4-H. It wasn't a horsey club. They tried to teach us to be perfect little homemakers. Perhaps that was what turned me off. I did though retain my sewing memories. When I pulled this out last weekend, I only had a piece of paper to work with. I wanted to see how the bobbin wound and thread the machine. It works. I am so so happy. To think my mom made clothes for me when I was little on this machine. I LOVE IT. I will never give it up. I just don't know what to make first. I think I will start with curtains.........
During the month off I also recieved a prize! I was the 2000th comment on Risa’s Blog She sent me in the mail this:

It is very very pretty sock yarn! I had no clue why she sent it to me. Little did I know I won her contest. How nice is she? I am thinking of having a little contest my self. I am not sure what it will be or just when. I have a ways to go before my 3,000th comment. I don't know if I can wait that long. Give me the weekend to figure it out.....
Over and out.

Scorcher! Wow!
Is it hot enough? Jeesh! So this is going to be a pictureless post. I got nothing people. I started my second sock (the blueberry pancake one) and got as far as picking up the stitches for the gusset. Then I totally f'd it up and ripped the whole damn thing out. I am a perfectionist. So now I am back to the leg. That's as far as I got. It's just too damn hot. No AC at our house either. Please don't ask. But relief is coming. Work does have AC and I bless my good fortune of having a job.
I have been cruising a lot of web sites this week and found some keepers! I am sure you all have seen them already, but if you haven't then you must check them out.
First there is a Spinning Online Magazine! It's been out for I think 3 issues. It's called Spindlicity
Great site! Great patterns. Check out this cute hat. Marnie MacLean has such cute things!
Here is another spinning blog I have been drooling over:
Two Left Needles
I don't know her name (yet) but her spinning is GORGEOUS! Her knitting projects aren't so bad either. She also gives some good tips!
Another knitting/spinning blog I have been enjoying is Seed Stitch. Truly lovely stuff.
I really need to get my ass in gear for this Muff Along! There will be prizes! We still don't know what we are doing yet. I don't know how some of you all organize these things and we only have less than 10 people! I give you credit.
Okay, that's it. I need to have a popsicle.

Re Entry
Into normal life is never easy after a week off is it? Sigh..... it was very hard getting out of bed this morning. I really could get used to NOT WORKING! Any way, I am back and in the saddle. What did I do? I knit, I did some spinning, I slept, I went to Lake Placid! It was truly beautiful. We took a little boat ride around the lake

That above is Whiteface Mountain. Below is just one of the many "camps" around the lake

Can you believe it? This is better than my house! And they probably think they are "roughing it" Must be nice eh?
Below are 2 crazy kids that I thought made a nice picture:

Little Geek was a little bored with all the shopping......

He got stuff though, he wasn't bored for long.....

I picked up a couple of things for my self as well. There was a yarn store there and well, I just had to see what they had! Here is my haul:

and

I have heard of Fleece Artist stuff before. It is wonderful! The roving was a bit expensive for what you get. It was $5 bucks for 50 grams. You really don't get much from that. I think it is more for needle felters but what the heck. I have already spun it up:

I picked up an interesting book while in Lake Placid. I think you can see it in the picture above. It is called "Lady In The Lake" It is about a woman found at the bottom of Lake Placid with an anchor tied around her neck. Was it suicide? Or MURDER??? Hmmmmmm.... The picture below is about where she was found. CREEPY....

Alright, enough of my vacation. I did get somewhere on my shawl:

And forget what I said about the stitch markers. I was WRONG. As you get higher in stitch count you really do need them. I don't know how many times I have un-knit this damn thing. I always find a mistake the last row down. Very annoying. But I am almost done. I think I should have this done by the weekend. It will be blocked too.
Now I have to check up on my blogs. See ya around!

You know you are from a small town when...
Your Memorial Day Parade lasts 5 minutes! Okay, we are going to round out the weekend with more pictures!
This is taken in front of my parents house. This parade happens every year. They always go down my parents street. Here is Grandma Geek with little Geek. Papa Geek is sitting on the steps. My chair is empty because I am taking the picture:

My Mom would kill me if she knew I put that picture up of her. She usually doesn't make that face. She's cute. Okay so if I sit in that chair and look to my right this is what I see:

How exciting! Here comes the parade!!!!
Here is a picture of the veterans from my home town (which is the purpose of the parade right?):

I think the guy in the blue shirt was my science teacher in highschool. That makes me feel a little old....I don't think he was a a WW2 vet though....
Okay next up is the high school band. Now the band always seems to stop playing music and start playing the drums whenever they get to my parents house. NOT THIS YEAR!!! Woo hooo!!!!

What would a parade be with out the cute little girl scouts?

Or boy scouts

And FIRE TRUCKS!!!!

And more FIRE TRUCKS!!!!

There you have it! The 5 minute parade. Oh and I also saw the airforce jets fly over. I love that!
Knitting content begins now.....

These hat's are the best tv knitting I have ever done. And I'm gonna make more.
Specs:
Pattern: 1 skein Noro hat
Yarn: Noro Kueryon
Needles: Size 8 US Circs and DP

Memorial Weekend, Day 2 with Mia...
Yes, I am sure you were all chomping at the bit. I spent Sunday afternoon with Mia and her family. Here is the lovely hostess herself:

She's a little shy, and yes that is a cigar. Boy did we have fun. There was a ton of food and drinks. Here is "Geek boy" as she calls him

She also had a golf cart to cart us around. Even to the bathrooms which we could have walked to.
Mr. Big Geek did what he does best:

Unfortunately requests for kumbaya (I have no idea how to spell it) were denied. He has his limits folks. He did play a John Denver song and I think Blowin' In the Wind. But don't tell anybody.
Here is a nice patriotic shot from where I was sitting. Thought it was fitting for the weekend

The day wouldn't be complete without the sunset shot:

Finally we all sat around the fire to digest our food. I took this picture and I swear it was Elvis! What do you think...was I drunk?

There was no knitting to be done on this day. No way. I don't think I could have if I tried! I had to take a nap the next day. Thanks Mia! Had a great time.
Up tomorrow:
The 5 minute parade..... and some knitting!

Inspiration
Inspire:
1. To animate the mind or emotions of.
2. To stimulate and influence.
3. To elicit; create.
4. To inhale.
This is from the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language
This is from the Scholastic Children’s Dictionary:
1. To fill someone with an emotion, an idea, or an attitude.
2. To influence and encourage someone to do something.
I read Rachel’s blog entry from October 6th. I really thought a lot about this for a long time because it had a big impact on me. What inspires me?
I get totally excited when a new knitting magazine comes in the mail! Nobody eats dinner or can interrupt me if I am looking at it. I always go through every page, then go back when I have some quiet time and look at every ad, story, article, pattern. I guess you could say that knitting and fiber are my passion right now. I believe it will always be my passion and I would eventually like to make a living at it. I am still trying to find out what my niche in all this will be.
I also get inspired by color. I love color! As you know I have been doing a lot of dying with Kool Aid lately. That is exciting to me. Seeing what new colors I can come up with. I know I will branch out someday and try food coloring and other dyes. But for now it is Kool Aid. It makes my kitchen smell good.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing all my knitting blog friends creating and sharing in their excitement of finally finishing a sweater, a sock or a hand bag. Figuring out a new stitch, how to do a yarn over! I love the fact everyone and their mother made a Clapotis! What a fantastic pattern! I know it seems like everyone is making the same thing, but I really think that is cool. That means it’s a good pattern. What are the chances I may see another Clapotis or waving lace sock on someone? Well, in Syracuse, I may see a couple. But haven’t yet.
Music inspires me. Hearing a new cd or a new artist that I have never heard of and liking it right away excites me. If I really like something I will play it until I am sick of it. My family will be sick of it first then me. I like to rediscover cd’s that I bought years ago. I feel like they are brand new when I pull them out again. I love it when friends give me mixed cd’s or their new obsession. (I may or may not like it, but I give it a shot)
I love this time of year too. The colors of Autumn totally inspire me. The crispness in the air the smells even the cold damp rainy days. I love the dramatic skies we have this time of year. The dark ominous clouds. Love it!
My family inspires me. Well they encourage me too. I love them. I don’t know why I am being so serious right now. I guess it’s a little more about me that you can get to know. It certainly doesn’t mean I don’t have any knitting content. I finished a sock, I am still working on the turtle neck shrug, I have kool aid dyed yarn to show! It’s just so dark by the time I think to take pictures. So there you have it. Chew on that for a while.

Oh Lordy Look Who's 40!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that would be me. Hi, today is my birthday. I am 40 years old.
WOW.

I was a cute kid. What happened?
I have noticed a couple of things now that I have reached this fine age of 40
- Chin hair (???? WTF???)
- I really can't eat what I used to.
- I am okay with my stretch marks, I mean come on, nobody will ever see me in a bikini
- I was full of glee when I was asked for my id in a bar
- I can wear bright pink shoes to work and not care
- I have officially lost my mind
That's about it really, I am sure I can think of more!
What is up with my Mom taking pictures of us kids in the same position?

Boy, the 70's were not pretty were they?

Sad News.........
I have been struggling on whether I wanted to share this with everyone and finally decided that I should.

Thurston - 2001-2005 (rip)
Thurston was hit by a car last Friday night and is no longer with us. I have been away from blogging this week because I am trying to deal with this. I am crying as I type this!
He would have been 4 years old. But I have a great bunch of internet friends who already know about what happened and my friends that I see all the time, have been very supportive. THANKS!
I am remembering all the goofy things he did, like stare at me while I ate. Hoping that just one piece of food would fall off my fork and land on the floor. (it usually did) Or how we liked to play hide and seek in the morning. He hated the sound of a plastic bag rattling.
But as they say, time heals all wounds and it does. It's getting better every day.

NOT 1, NOT 2, BUT YES, 4 COUNT THEM 4 PAIR OF SHOES
I love life. Life is good. So are 4 PAIR OF SHOES!

Here is an up close shot of the purple shoes

Here is an up close shot of the "sparkly" numbers. I got these at Urban Outfitters. One of the things I miss about not living in Philadelphia, besides my friends

Of course it is still too cold to wear them!
New York was fun! You all know what this is

I finished my sock on the train and started my other one!

That is hubby's hand holding the sock. See? They are good for something.
The burlesque show was a blast. I saw The World Famous Bob and Dirty Martini. I stopped by Knit New York. I got an older Rebecca Magazine. They were nicer in there this time. I was wearing my first clapotis and I was really hot, so I took my coat off and took off my clapotis. Well, I caused a minor uproar! 3 women wanted to know if I knit it, where I got the pattern, and what the yarn was! I just wanted to get out of there. I was on the way to get a beer and saw the shop! It was nice of them though...
All in all a good time. Glad to be home.

I am going to New York BABY
Again! DARN! Yep. I am leaving tomorrow, coming back Monday. So no post on Monday. Tuesday maybe.......
I am so excited about this trip! I am going with my friend Theresa. She knows the city well. She is taking me here and we are going to see this
Should be fun! I am also on the hunt for the perfect pair of shoes. I am hoping we will have time to go to a couple of yarn stores but if it doesn't happen, that's okay.
I am bringing my sock to finish on the train ride down, so I hope to finish that and start the other one. I am bringing the curlycue scarf too for some diversity.
I can let a secret out of the bag! Go over to Missa's site I have designed a scarf for Knit Pixie.
It isn't at Knit Pixie yet but you can see Missa modeling it! For a hint scroll below. That mess turned out really nice! And you can do it with 1 skein of yarn! How cool is that!
OH yeah, I have been tagged for a couple of things. I will try and do those next week as well! I haven't had the time this week. Work, again is kicking my ass!

I got nothing. Nada, zilch
It's not that I haven't been doing anything.......(super secret projects are in the works)
But now that clapotis is done, I need another big project. Which will be to finish "Tammy" for my friend Cheryl. I told her I would complete it by the end of March. Now I don't think that will be that hard to do. Kris has offered to "watch" my stash for me. Now, if nobody tempts me and I don't see any new knitting magazines out there I can probably do this.
I have been seeing some great stuff out there at everyones blogs! I know that people have already seen this, but I think I will be making this cute crochet flower bag very soon.
Has everyone had a chance to go to Spun yet? Very cool, very COOL!
Sorry for a very boring post with no pictures.
I got Chinese food for lunch today.

Lets hope so.

Not sure what category this should be so...
I am going to file this under the "life" category because, well it is about what happened this weekend. Don't worry, there is knitting involved.
We had a little party this weekend! Yippeee!!! I gave out presents to the girls. Well the girls that were there! I have a great bunch of friends! Generous, creative, great bakers, umm what else?
My friend Theresa came to the party, I gave her these:

This is what you do if you don't want to weave in the ends.
This is what Theresa brought:

That my friends is Ricochet He has a band you know, you will see them later.
Note: Theresa brought the mask, not the child.
I gave out another neckwarmer, this is Margaret, she is Theresa's sister

She brought the most delicious cake!!!!!! (no picture sorry)
This is my friend Cheryl ( I owe her a sweater )

This is what Cheryl brought:

Kitty Litter Cake! Yes it is edible and delicious, I might add (it looks bad but it's not) This had me laughing sooooo hard! (the cake)
I made a couple of more neckwarmers but I didn't get a picture of Pegi or Debbie. (ooops)
The best part of the evening was the entertainment.
Ladies and Gentlemen, you will see a picture of the debut of the new band
CROSSBONES

Dan (my son) is the leader (and author of the title of the band), my husband is on the left, then Woodie and Pat.
They were, um, interesting. I think they need to work some bugs out. Very improvisational!
Well there you have it, my life with a few finished projects and the people who love them. (I hope)

Phew!
I am back! Guided By Beers were, well, um, interesting. They were entertaining, but they really sucked. Bob was hammered by the end of the night, as were many of the audience members!
If you have read my "about me" section you will know how much I am intrigued by celebrity gossip (#12) and I am always on the look out for them. Not that we get many celebrities in Syracuse, but I am very excited to be sharing the fact that I will now have to change #61 on my “about me” section! I SAW A FREAKIN MOVIE STAR!!!!! Wanna know who?

Yep Chloe Sevigney! I stood right next to her! She is a big GBV fan! I of course did not have the courage to talk to her.
I also saw this guy

Yep, none other than Mr. Emo himself Conor Oberst! Pollard was making fun of him. He picks on a lot of bands. I also saw Albert Hammond Jr. from the Strokes but I can't find a picture of him out there in internet land!
I had a wonderful time in NYC. I went to this yarn store. It wasn't that great. It is a cafe and a yarn store in 1. It was crowded and people were not very helpful. I did finish some things on the train ride down. I can't share until after Christmas. Sorry! But that's it for now!

Phew
Sorry, I have been away so long! Long story and I have to keep this quick.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR WELL WISHES ABOUT MY SILLY CAT!
I know, I know, he isn't silly! That really means a lot that so many cared! I have been busy knitting, but my internet connection is sketchy. So I will be blogging sporatically until I can get it fixed.
Here is a thought to put out there to you all.
Did any one pick up the Knit Wit book by Amy at Knitty.com?
What do you all think?
I was dissappointed! I really really like the site, but I wasn't expecting to see 1/2 the patterns from the site in the book. I am all for supporting the contributors of the book. But I thought maybe there would be some surprise designs from the wonderful bloggers we all check out every day.
Oh well that is my rant.
Sorry to anyone who liked it but I just didn't.

WARNING
This entry is a non knitting entry. SORRY! But I just had to share. This week has been hell. Work is kicking my ass and I am throwing a bridal shower on Saturday! So.... No real knitting has been happening this week. I had a dentist appt. yesterday too, and I don't have any cavities so I had to celebrate. I bought these

I altered the picture a bit. It was too dark so I lightened it up a bit. Can I tell you, I LOVE THESE BOOTS!!! They are Steve Madden (sigh......) of course, and I have been eyeballin them for a while now. I got them. Yippeeee. I couldn't just stop there with the pictures. I took another picture of my other favorite boots (steve madden) Wanna see them? No? To bad

Sorry about the crappy photo. I didn't buy these yesterday.
But I did try these on yesterday. I don't think I am brave enough to wear these though...

Lastly folks, this is just the tip of the iceburg

That doesn't even include my sneakers. I am ill.
Have a wonderful and safe Holiday Weekend!

WOW
I am being very daring, I have put a picture up of my self in my finished gallery. I didn't want to. I HATE my picture taken. I HATE my many chins. Okay there are 2 (maybe 3) So I always try to hide it. The picture is showing my Rowan "It's a Tape Thing" Hat. I am going to make a purple one too. Note to Lydia: I will get back to you on the color way of the socks. I have the label at home. Thanks for the comments!

Did some shopping last night
What a great night last night! I had a wonderful "date" with my husband. All very spur of the moment. My son spent the night at Grandma and Poppa's. I went to Barnes and Noble and bought 3 books:
Hip to Crochet - I like this book, it has potential. I bought Hip to Knit a while back and I liked that book too. I don't like the authors yarn color choices though. YUCK.
I also bought: Our Mothers War and I Love Everybody (and other atrocious lies). Can you tell I read Bust? I can't wait to start reading. But I have to finish the one on my night stand now. See side bar.
Other news, my very cool brother sent me a package of new music yesterday! He is a "pop purest" which means he likes that sugary sweet power pop music. I do too. Thanks Tim and Happy Birthday!

I think I am going thru....
My mid-life crisis. I mentioned a couple of entry's ago that I bought Pretty in Pink (the DVD) and Logan's Run. Well, last night I bought:
The Breakfast Club
St. Elmo's Fire (did I mention I love Andrew McCarthy? Is he still cute?)
Valley Girl
No, I don't want to be 18 again. But I loved those movies! I wanted to be Molly Ringwald! I think I still do.
Glad to hear that Stephanie liked her booty. I can only hope she likes the music!

SIGH......
Life is good. I got organized this weekend. I put up some more shelves to hold my works in progress (knitting) So, I didn't do much knitting this weekend. I did one more square. I am going over to Julia's tonight to knit which will be great. She has a new kitten! So perhaps pictures of the new kitten will be here tomorrow.
I sorta feel like a big bitch for my last entry on the "What makes a good knit blog" But I do stand by what I said. Thank you for the comments!

Yep it goes here Life Category
I visited Stephanie's Blog yesterday like I do everyday, and she mentioned a link to a discussion about what makes a good knitting blog. I read the link over and I liked what I read. I have my own feelings on what makes a good knitting blog, here they are:
1) Do what you want, it’s your freakin blog, if you want a picture of cats, dogs, and children, then go ahead and put them in! If people don’t want to read it, they won’t. WHO CARES!
2) I know it is a “knitting blog” but come on, I WISH I could knit everyday. I also can’t knit as fast as Yarn Harlot but I can only hope to. So I won’t always have knitting up there. I do, I noticed, don’t put up how I am progressing on a project. That will change. I have been holding out. So I am going to post more about the works as they progress. Oh yeah, WHO CARES!
3) I like visuals. The more pictures the better. By the way WHO CARES!
4) I don’t like wordy blogs without pictures. Keep it short and sweet. Lest we forget WHO CARES!
5) Readability is very important. If it is too small or on a dark background – forget it. I won’t be bothered. And er WHO CARES!
6) I like humor it makes me laugh! Do you CARE?
7) I already admitted I can’t spell, I am going to spell check more. I am not a grammar person either. All you snobs get over it. I never said I was a writer. Did I mention, WHO CARES?
I am not looking for an audience/fan club, just some friends out there that like the same things I do.
Blog on man.

Lake Ontario....
I didn't do that much knitting this weekend. We went up to Lake Ontario and it was great. Great food, great people, great weather, sorta........

My son thought he controlled the waves, which I think he did

Like I said there were many interesting people there

The weather did eventually cooperate

There was this candy to be eaten at the lake

Then the artsy shot for the way home, I loved how the back of the car lights turned out

I did do a little knitting, I will post that tomorrow. It was The boy's birthday on Sunday. 7 years old!!! Wow.

The bug that isn't
For those of you who don't like bugs, sorry, but I was trying an artsy shot and got this

He isn't there anymore, which kinda scares me. He molted, so does that mean he is bigger? hmmmmmmm. A grasshopper landed on my feakishly white legs and I took a picture of that to, but alas, the legs were too hairy and would have obscured the view of the lovely grasshopper.

Busy week, not much knitting
Yep, very busy. My son told me I knit too much. So I said "....And the problem with that is......" Well sometimes I do. So last Saturday we had craft afternoon at our house. In the new issue of Martha Stewart Kids there were projects on how to make popscicle houses. So we made a couple!

Mine is the one on the right with the crooked door. I still have to glue it on. I think they came out good! Now we can play. My son wants his to be his super hero's hang out. I am going to girly mine up and put glitter on it and make it into a fairy house.
We went to a cookout on Wednesday. I was trying to take an "artsy" photo of the flowers and "the son" got in the background. I like the picture though and no he is not crying. He is a clown.

Of course no cookout would be complete with out fireworks.

I love how these come out with my camera
I took a picture of some toys on my desk at work the other day......I think Wendy will probably like this one

I think Sponge Bob is proposing....nah, I think he is subtly checking out her chest.
Finally, I just love this picture of my son

Be afraid, Be frightened, Be petrified! It's Shark Boy
I hope to finish my poncho this weekend.

I'm back
I went away for 2 days for work to a paper mill in lovely Lake George, NY. It was really fun and fascinating! Now I know how paper is made. It was HOT as a dog's ass, but there was cold beer at the end, so it was all worth it. I brought my feather and fan scarf along but I get car sick so I didn't do any knitting. I am going to take Missa's advice on the "star circles" and square them off. I just don't know when.......

I promised SOMEBODY I wouldn't do this.......

But he is too damn cute! He is using the yarn for a pillow! His name is Smudge, he is 8 years old and he aspires to be a Walmart greeter when he grows up.

I'm still here
So I finally got my digital camera! It is fantastic. It is a Cannon and it is fantastic. Unfortunately, I loaded the software to download the pictures onto my computer and it didn't work! My computer is f'ed up. Arg!! So, I have a camera, and pictures to post, but I have to many set backs. I went to Ithaca, NY this past Saturday with a couple of friend and I had a blast! We went to the farmer's market and I bought some yarn from a vendor there. It isn't hand spun, but that's okay. If I could I would post a goddamn picture!! I will though. Of course I spilled some of my food on the yarn, but it was saved. We also went to this great consignment store and I got some great deals on clothes. I always find stuff there. Any way I will try again tonight to fix the computer. I still haven't knit anything.

This weekend
We went to a beautiful wedding this weekend. This was first wedding my son has ever been to. We bought him a nice outfit, he was on his almost best behavior, then oh yes it happened. He slid into a mud puddle. I only wish I had a camera! But he had a big mud spot from his waist down. He didn't get the shirt dirty which was weird......He wanted to go home. But I just tied a sweatshirt around his waist and let it dry. Then he was fine. But it always happens when you don't bring an extra change of clothes!!

I don't know what to call this category!
Did anyone out there get their recent issue of Ready Made Magazine yet?
Has anyone out there seen the article about how to transform your old concert/rock tee-shirts to much nicer and wearable tee-shirts, skirts and dresses? WOW I can't wait to try it! I have a shit load of tee shirts that I just can't seem to part with, but don't want to wear because they make me look larger than I already am. Not to mention they have no shape to them. I am going to try to make the skirt first. Oh yeah the article was by Todd Oldham. He is brilliant. LOVE HIM. Are there any other crafty sites out there that offer a way to transform my boring old tee-shirts? Please let me know! I will let you know the up date on the skirt when I start it. My husband was in a band when we lived in Philly and he still has a bunch of tees left that I could at least mess 1 up and get it right the next time.

Life is good!
My birthday was last week. I am finally 39 (sigh) and my friends gave me a little party this weekend! My friend Josie gave me a wonderful gift certificate to one of my favorite yarn stores!! Yippeee!!!! I can't wait to spend it! (I love you Josie!) My parents gave me a gift certificate too. And I am sorta, but not really ashamed to say I bought another pair of shoes. I am done. DONE, really, DONE. They are Steve Madden of course. And they are red and they are WONDERFUL.

I am a slave to fashion
Or maybe I am just an idiot. I bought the shoes that you will see soon. They are not my beloved Steve Madden's but they are leather and they were comfortable when I tried them on! Of course I tried them on with peds. but I wore them to work yesterday, and they are cute! Let me tell you! They are damn cute! But as every gal knows it is very hard to wear shoes with out stockings, knee hi's, socks, peds whatever.... My feet got so sweaty! and stuck to the whole inside of the shoe. Well my coworkers did take pity on me and finally gave me some baby powder for my poor tootsies. While they all commented on how cute the shoes are. Well here is a picture of my feet. I know I know I need a pedicure.

The white stuff is the powder and not disgusting foot fungus.

What the F*bleep*K?
See I told you I like to swear! Okay, so is it a full moon or something? Oh look, my calendar says that the "new moon" was yesterday. So that might explain why everyone has to drive like complete idiots. I drive on the highway to work. The speed limit is usually 65. As you get closer to the city it is 55. Well every one is doing at least 85. WHY PEOPLE? You are going to work! I would rather you rush home than rush to work! I am going 65 to 70. Sometimes I like to live dangerously and go 75. But then my whole car shakes. I see some of the other mothers who have just dropped their kids off at daycare blast past me at 85-90. I am not kidding. Oh and they are probably talking on their cell phones. I HATE THAT TOO! That could be a topic for another day.
Okay I am done. (Big cleansing breath, breathe in.......breathe out)
