August Socks are done! »»

Can't stop spinning....
I go through phases. I spin a ton of stuff then I put it aside and knit my fanny off.
Oh and I have to figure out how to take more color accurate pictures of my stuff. Take a look:
Here is the roving. I really need to be better at documenting what it is exactly I am spinning! I know it's wool. I think it is Merino. I have the receipt somewhere. All you need to know right now is that is is S O F T!
Here is the roving and a bobbin of singles
Here is the finished result
Oh MY! Can you say slinky, soft, squishy goodness? I can! I have approx. 136 yards of this. It is a worsted weight yarn.
Now as I said I need to work on the color accuracy. These pictures are way too light. The real color is more of a deeep deep blueish purple. Here, see the ball of yarn on the top of the blue and green?
It is THAT dark. So why could I capture it in this photo and not the others? Cause I don't know what I am doing. What is the Rowan Yorkshire Tweed for do you ask? I dunno, I got it at the big yarn sale at my favorite LYS. It was 1/2 price. I thought mittens or socks.
I can't be thinking about other stuff when I need to finish my August socks and my February Lady Sweater! sigh...

It's gorgeous! I think the reason you might not be capturing it is because your shots are over-exposed, so it's lightens everything up. You can tell because the bowl is really white, as well as the highlights in the first shot. Do you have a photo editor? If you do, and there is an option to change exposure, you can try turning it down a bit. Also, depending on how many manual options your camera has you may be able to automatically change the exposture that way as well. Beautiful job spinning, even if the picture didn't come out like you wanted it to ;)

It might also be because you photographed the roving against a white background and the yarn against the greens of the yard. But it might be the camera too. My camera will do almost any color except a deep purple. It makes that royal blue and no adjusting any of the settings has worked.
Anyway, pretty, pretty! I think the Rowan is perfect for colorwork and I saw that you have been busy updating your Rav queue. ;-)

That yarn looks great! I'm impressed that you can ply (for lack of a better word) all the plies (sp?) together. Very professional looking.

that was beautiful! I love the colors in the purple! It's hard to get an accurate pic because of lighting. Sometimes outdoor/natural light is too harsh I think... Wanna take a photography class with me so we can learn what is REALLY going on with the color???
I am serious.

I would certainly buy yarn if the description said "Dark Purple and Soooooooft". LOL!
Looks like the Rowan was photographed under cloudy conditions and yours was under a flash or bright sun.
My 2 cents...but I also know nothing. :-)

That is some damn fine yarn! It makes me want to just pick it up and smooooooosh it.

Beautiful! I'm sorry to say that, even when you get a perfectly colored picture on YOUR monitor, there's no way to have people viewing it on the blog see it properly. Very few people have color-calibrated monitors... generally they are waaay off.
Color management can be a HUGE pain in the rump. (I work with this problem in the printing industry) Either way, calibrated or not, most people can probably see how varied and rich the colors are, even if they aren't quite true-to-life. They are certainly lovely from this home-and not calibrated-computer anyway! ^_^

That is gorgeous! I want to reach in the computer and squeeze it.

If I remember my art classes correctly, it might have something to do with the density of the wool and how much light can pass through it. Maybe the other skein is more tightly plied? I dunno...I was a pretty poor art student.
It's still just lovely and makes me wish I could get my spinning mojo back on!

If that roving is from Rhinebeck, I can tell you exactly what it is. Let me know and I will relay the info. I have the same stuff in my stash!!
