It's been too hot to knit...

But I did anyway. WOW! Thank goodness the heat has subsided a bit.

I thought I would have a finished sock (yes only one) to show, but you will have to settle for an almost finished sock.

I have to rip out the toe and make it a little longer. It's just a little too snug for my comfort. I am ahead again on my sock for this month. I bet I have the finished pair done by next week.

I did a little spinning too this weekend:

The above picture is a more clear picture but not very color accurate. Here is a better one for color, but it's a little blurry

I am really enjoying spinning this. It is a wool/angora blend and yes, it really is soft. It's spinning up brighter than the batt:

remember that? I got it in September. It really is divine. I have some angora that I want to card with wool and now I can. I can't wait to see what this looks liked plied. AND what to make with it?

I have also been noticing (okay, I am stalking...) some beautiful, woven, things around blog land.

I have had this in my basement for like 10 or 12 years....

should I take the plunge? It's a bit dusty....

Take the plunge!! I'm waiting for my previously owned rigid heddle loom to arrive--we can compare weaving notes!!

What kind of question is that??? Of course you should take the plunge... I'll be right over. :-)

Love the sock, love the yarn. Must touch the yarn.... okay, maybe I'll spin mine up next week... on my new wheel... arriving June 21!

PLUNGE!!!!

Posted by: Shannon at June 12, 2008 04:22 PM

thank you!

I feel like I am finally getting into the dying "groove" I bought some more dye this week and I cleaned my kitchen today! So I am going to dye up some more tonight. I just hate waiting for them to dry and the weather in seattle has been less than enjoyable lately.

You've had that thing in your basement and it hasn't been calling you all this time????

Posted by: lisa at June 12, 2008 08:58 PM

Yup. Plunge away. You can never have too many hobbies, right?

Posted by: Sheepish Annie at June 12, 2008 09:22 PM

Of course you must plunge! You know I'll be right there to help as needed. You know how much I love luring other people into the world of weaving :-)

YES! Take the plunge! More WIPs never hurt anyone! I also still have your spinning book because I'm a slacker and forgot it at the guild meeting. Will I see you knitting at FoE one of these weekends or should I mail it? I think I'm heading to Sheep Thrills for a bit of WWKIP Day tomorrow!

Get out your duster and wipe the 'ole girl off!

Love the socks, too, BTW.

Squinting at the picture - it looks like the reed is slightly rusty. I'd say dust it off, see if the reed is removable (they usually are) and find a weaving supply store. Ideally, one you can take it to for advice on cleaning or replacement, but you may have to look online. It's good to have two sizes of reed anyway so you can weave with different weights of warp.

Or just dust it off and try weaving with what's on it already, to find out whether it works (and whether it bores you). Weaving is a lot faster than knitting after the initial setup, and you could make matching skirt and sweater sets or weave a kilt in your very own tartan to go with your kilt socks. :-)

What beautiful spinning! Nothing uses yarn so fast as weaving, or so I hear... :) Thanks for checking out the poetry in stitches sweater.
cheers,
Cheryl
