Oh dear, I forgot to blog......

Where does the time go? Really I have been meaning to post, but....

Anyway... I have some sock progress! These socks seem to be going a lot slower than what I am normally used to. I can crank them out in a week and half usually. These are taking a month! I have one sock done and the other going:

I am still on the fence about whether I like knitting toe ups. I can see the benefits, however, I do have holes on one side of my short row heel. Perhaps I will get better at that as I go along. The holes don't really bother me much. They aren't that big.

There has been a lot of crochet going on around blogland. And if you didn't know, that is what I did before I learned to knit. I love crochet and I am really happy that there are so many good patterns out there now! So while I have been checking out other blogs I came across Peeve's site and found her wonderful crochet granny square blanket using leftover sock yarn! What a GREAT idea!

I had to start immediately:

I have quite a bit of left overs:

This blanket of mine will either be brilliant or hideous! I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Speaking of crochet, I picked up this book last night:

OH MY GOD! I can't wait to start the punk bunny!

Uh oh! Sounds like new project-itis! The socks look great. The sock yarn looks really neat in the granny pattern. However it turns out, it will be interesting!

Just checked out The Knitting Connection. Came home with more sock yarn. This time though, the skein includes a matching spool of reinforcement yarn for the heel and toes tucked inside! I am fighting new project-itis really hard right now. Too many WIP's!

Look at the fun pooling on that sock! Wow, I love it. I've become a big fan of toe-up short row heeled socks. I strongly recommend Wendy's short row heel, which you can find at http://wendyknits.net/knit/DetailedToeUp.pdf (watch out, it's a .pdf). She double wraps her short rows and there were zero holes on my socks. It was magical and easy. :)

I think your blanket will look marvy...love the mixed up colors on a granny square...the worse part is sewing them all together...! ugh

I, too, am glad that crochet is making a comeback. (did it ever really leave? I'm not sure...) I like the idea that I can blog about another hobby that I do poorly but with great enthusiasm! I am currently working on a scarf in a crocheted leaf stitch using some leftover singles I spun a billion years ago.

Nice work on the socks. And I love the afghan! What a great way to use up the leftovers!!

Must know where you found that book! I want a lion with a star shirt!!!

Punk bunny, that's funny! I don't have as much leftover sock yarn (because I am so SLOW at making socks), but I've thought of using leftovers for stripy socks... I can't crochet beyond a chain!

I love the crochet granny square blanket! I have one that I've been working on for the past two years out of scraps! It will cover my house some day!

PUNK BUNNY RULES!

Personally I'm loving those socks! I love the colours and the way that they are working with you on them.

Hey my green socks are looking very purple! Well, you can keep those ... I'll wait for yummy green ones. :) It is all about me (and my feet).
... the bunny and blanket will be super!! M

Oh, those crochet animals are great! I have a whole bin of left over yarn... but you're right, it just might turn out hideous because they were never meant to blend together well!

Wendy's toe-up instructions always gave me holes in one side of my heels. For my last pair, a friend suggested Cosmic Pluto's tutorial which as just a small change from Wendy's: picking up the purl side wraps on the RIGHT side of the stitch instead of the left. I haven't actually tried that yet, I ended up purling through the back loop instead which also worked. My first short row heel with no holes at all!

I think your socks look great though. The yarn is so bright and funky! Who are they for?

One thing I realized that I needed to do with my short rows on the right side is pick up a stitch and knit it together with the first stitch on the heel. Kinda like you do with heel flaps when you pick up the gusset stitches. My hole sealed up well.

OH MY! I have to get that book! how cute. My girlfriend just showed me how to crochet and I am slightly hooked. I think I will still be more addicted to knitting but there are certain things that just make crochet look so cute and those animals are one of them!

I get the little holes, too... I just pretend I don't see them. *lol*

The sock yarn granny square afghan is GREAT! Now I totally have a plan for my leftovers!!!

Speaking of granny squares, I still haven't brought myself to sew together the squares I crocheted for my friend's baby blanket. The baby was born in May...and it's only 25 squares.

Happy belated birthday to Little (getting very big) Geek.

I used to really struggle with short row heels. So I decided to just knit a dutch heel in reverse, and that solved my problem. Means I still struggle with short row heels but now I just postponed solving that problem while still enjoying toe up socks... :)
