Magic Sheep Day 2

I touched the stuff and it is fluffy. But I don't think I can spin it.

And while we are at it, you know you want to see my Spiral Boot Sock's progress again don't you?

Almost to the heel!

Presents and Progress!

Wow, that holiday weekend went fast didn't it? I hope everyone had a great kick off to summer. I did! It all started on Friday night when I got home to a package from Kris. When ever I see a package from Kris I get very excited. She sends the nicest things! This was a birthday gift from Kris. I believe my birthday was celebrated all month long (as it should be...)

anyway.... here is what she sent:

Sorry about the dark picture, it was a sunny day, but the sun was behind a cloud. Isn't it the prettiest sock yarn you have ever seen? It is Norwegian sock yarn and I can't pronounce it, I won't even try. Okay here goes: Hargenflargen Sock yarn. I think that is what it is called Ha Ha.... I love the colors of this. It has reds, purples, greens all mixed up. I am thinking of making the ever popular Monkey Socks.

She also included this in the package:

I put him together while my son was out of the house. Hey, it's my present right? I want all the fun! I thought it would be fun to see the sheeps progress on a daily basis.

Here he is after I put him together:

Poor naked sheep!

Okay, here he is after like 4 hours:

and here is a close up of his cute face

Now when I woke up this morning, he needed a shave. I didn't take a picture. I thought I would tonight when I get home from work.

If only it were a real sheep and real wool! If only he could mow my lawn!

What's next? Oh yes, progress! I thought I would be done with my Spiral Boot Socks, but alas, it wasn't meant to be:

But I am getting there.

Thank you Kris for the lovely birthday present! I love it!

Random stuff

I wasn't sure which category to put this post under. So I chose "Life"

I have not thanked you all for your very nice comments on my sweater!
Thank you! I will be e-mailing you all, if I hadn't already. Not that there are many to e-mail, but I like to respond back when I can.

I think it's nice.

Okay, so what's new with me?

Well, I have 1 sock done. Which sock? The "Spiral Boot Sock" of course. I did not take a picture yet because I want to show a picture of the full finished project. Photo styled and everything. Yeah right...

I must say this is my favorite sock so far! I have even cast on for the second one! As I should.

I wanted to share a couple of recent purchases I have made. Here is the first

Yes, that's right, I PURCHASED this. I did not make it. (just making things clear...) I got it at my favorite vintage store. I have been eyeballing this for a long long time. And it is finally mine! Yes, MINE! Isn't it the sweetest little capelet you have ever seen? Well I think it is. I would love to figure this pattern out. It doesn't look too difficult.

My next purchases were all from gift cards from my birthday

new books.jpg

Yes, I had a VERY NICE BIRTHDAY!!! I love Amazon. I would marry it.

So I got some great books, there is one book though I am going to send back and that is the Twinkle Book. I looked at it before I bought it but I wish I looked a little closer. All the patterns are for 12-14 year old girls with no "girls" if you know what I mean. Not everyone in the world is SKINNY you know. Sigh....... but I am hoping to exchange it for something better. Well I could make the hat and scarves in the book. At least I know they will fit. Right?

Lastly, I got these at the Dollar store

flip flops.jpg

Guess how much they were? Come on guess!

I crack my self up.

You know I can't sit idle...

I am here to show you my new project!

I bought some yarn at a rummage sale a couple of weeks ago. Really pretty yarn. Rowan 4 ply Botany in a beautiful light purple color. I got 4 skeins for 5 bucks! (sorry, had to brag... but that is a steal) I thought cool! I can make those "Anna Socks" from last fall's issue of the Rowan magazine. So I started them

I am cruising along on these socks and reading the pattern and not really noticing any decreases in the pattern. Wanna know why? THERE AREN'T ANY. . Now to me that is a big alarm. These freakin' socks will totally bag at the ankles. Of course they don't in the picture because they have little clothes pins attached in the back. Am I right????

So along comes the new issue of Interweave Knits. Some cute stuff in here my mind says. What do I see? But the Spiral Boot Socks! I must make those SPIRAL BOOT SOCKS! They won't bag at the ankles. Wanna know why? There are DECREASES in the pattern.

These socks are going to be wonderful! I frogged Anna. It just didn't work.

And look! I am using 4, yes 4 double pointed needles!

I would even MARRY my new sweater.

Here is the back:

Pattern: Karalund from Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton's Book 2
Yarn: Noro Silk Garden - 9 skeins (it called for 10, I have enough to make a hat!)
Needles: US 8 circular

I would SO make another one of these! I was way easy and it is very flattering, I think....I have it on today and I am sure I will have to put it away until fall. But that's okay, I got to wear it once right?

Wow! Another fab weekend

Here at the Big Geek Ch√Ęteau. I got A LOT done. Including dyeing some more fiber with the pumpkin dye that Carla gave me. Here is the fruits of my labor:

I can't say enough good things about how this came out! I LOVE IT!
(but I wouldn't want to marry it) I think I need to try a different color though.... or many different colors. Or I will have much orange in my wardrobe.

I also completed the "knitting" of my Klaralund

almost there.jpg

Now the joy of seaming...... sigh....... my least favorite task.

Busy busy busy...

Well there you have it. It is plyed. And I LOVE IT! Both of them! Carla was so nice to give me a capfull more of the pumpkin so I can dye up some more!

On to other news. Friday was my birthday. Yes, Happy Birtday to me. When you get to be my age, you are just glad that you wake up in the morning right? Okay so I am not THAT old, but really it is just another day. My parents and my Mother in Law came over with dinner. Very nice. A little later, Margaret and Big Lou came over with a birthday cake. My brother stopped by too. All around fun. Nothing fancy, but nice to just sit and talk and drink MORE wine. Saturday I went to a couple of garage sales and book sales. I think I spent around $15 dollars and got some cool tee shirts, and some really great books. My biggest deal was 4 skeins of Rowan 4-ply Botany in PURPLE! Enough to make the Anna socks in the fall magazine (06) YAY!!! That was $5 bucks total! Well after all that excitement this is what I did

nap time.jpg

I never take naps.

Note: I forgot that Carol came over Friday too. And she brought me a great pirate hat and lots of goodies!

How's that Carol? Hee hee....

But it wasn't a party. Really. Speak to my husband. He did all the planning...

I'm dyin' over here....

Guess what happened this weekend with this:

dying to be dyed.jpg

Well you take it to "DYE DAY". What is "DYE DAY?" Well it is when girls from my spinning guild get together and dye fiber! Carla came with her dye stuff and boy did I pick the right color!

Betcha can't wait to see huh?

That is PUMPKIN! And that isn't even a good picture. It has reds, oranges, yellows all mixed up. When we took it out of the dye bath and unzipped the lingerie bag, everyone gasped!

I also threw in a little roving into the Watermelon dye pot. Let's see them both together:

Oh my! The watermelon turned out "nice" but I really really love the pumpkin. I did a little spinning last night and here it is on a bobbin:

Now all I need to do is ply. Can't wait to see it all skeined up.

Carla I need more of that PUMPKIN! We must discuss.....
