Phew! I am back and in the saddle...
So to speak. I got back from NYC on Wednesday, but I needed to play catch up for the rest of the week!
I try to make it to a different yarn store every time I am in the big city. This time I made it to none other than School Products. I liked this store! I wish I had more time to browse though. He was closing up at 6:30 and I had gotten there about 20 minutes before. Never one to leave empty handed.....

100% Merino. It seems like fingering weight yarn, not quite lace weight. And I think a bargin too. $6.50 for each skein. And the yardage not to bad at: 405 yards approx. per skein. At least that is what I think it is. The shop keeper was very nice. I found out his wife will be featured in the up and coming issue of Interweave Knits AND his son is responsible for Karabella Yarn! WOW! Of course I didn't buy any of that. I wanted something I couldn't get up here in Syracuse. I am happy with it.
Oh and I have a FO! Yep! Pirate hat number 3!

I am hoping to get a picture of it on it's recipient today so I can show you her joy!
p.s.s - Happy anniversary to me and my Best friend PEGI, we have known each other for what? 33 years is it Peg? I love you like a sister!

I really love that yarn you got at School Products. I'm tempted, I mean really tempted to call up and see if I can order some (it just screams lovely large shawl to me!)
I need to make one (or two) of those pirate hats myself. I know my brothers would love them. However I really stink at color knitting. I can't seem to get my tension right and I end up with a puckered looking thing.
It was great seeing you this past weekend. We should do this whole spinning thing more than once a month! I think we should schedule a drunken spinning night ;)
Oh.. and Happy Anniversary Geek and Pegi :)

I am a yarn tourist too - love picking up "new" yarn when I am traveling about!
Love your third pirate hat!

WOW What a great hat! I am making my brother pirate mittens and a hat and maybe a scarf too, Do you have a pattern you used, or did you make it?

That is some super pretty yarn! I might even be tempted to knit something all lacy and stuff if I had that in the stash. And the lace and I have never really gotten along all that well...
And the pirate hat? Too cool!!!

aargh, 'tis a lovely chapeau to be sure! And WAY better than the one I just finished. I got yarn prior to looking at the pattern...and got WORSTED! But I loved the colors and feel of the yarn (1824) so I altered the pattern for a repeat of 3 vs 4 (96 stitches) and just one round of skulls w/ a border above and below. Silly me, forgot to drop down a needle size after prov cast on, and it was a bit bigger than I'd intended...but just about OK. So, even though it's a machine wash, I thought...MAYBE if I put it in VERY hot water, then rinse in cold, then throw in a hot drier...well, guess what? IT GREW!!!!!! But it wasn't quite dry...so I put it back in this morning, and it is about what it was. For my son who will be 11 on Friday and has a head same size as mine...it's loose on me. I'd frog and reknit, but would need more, and the yarn was purchased an hour away. So, I think he'll get it as is, with promise to adjust by reknitting if he wants. I'll post in a day or 2 about it.

Long time bestest friends are so cool. I've known mine for 41 years!! She lives 1164 miles away though so we don't get to see each other very often. :-(
