Too pretty not to share
I really don't know what is wrong with me lately. I haven't felt much like knitting. On my shawl that is. I have 160 stitches left to cast off. That may not seem like a lot, but when you have a 12 row repeat of your pattern border, it's forever. I do believe my shawl has swallowed me whole.
I have been spinning though...
I took aprox 4 oz of 100% Alpaca and dyed it with, yes... koolaid. It's all I have on hand! But the color turned out quite pretty! Here is the roving:

I am showing both because they both looked pretty cool. I would highly recommend predrafting any of your roving.
Next up is the bobbin shot. I love bobbin shots

I had a lot of color variation with my dyeing. Hey, I'm a beginner! I like all my mistakes.
Here we have finished yarn

Nice huh? Sorry. I am bragging.... ;-)
This is my first dk/fingering weight yarn! Wahooo!!!!! Of course I don't have enough for a pair of socks. And I wouldn't make a pair of socks out of 100% Alpaca.
Here is a to scale shot:

I am thinking I may get some more Alpaca at RHINEBECK!!!!!! Yes! I am going! Wahoooooooo!!!!!!!! Ahem, sorry. I will get some more and dye some more and spin some more and hopefully make a small shawl.
Are you going to Rhinebeck????

mmmm, that yarn you spun up looks like cotton candy :)

You should be proud of that alpaca, it looks awesome! Both the dyeing and the spinning!

Sometimes we need to brag otherwise who would notice :-) Very nice yarn! I'm still attempting to get my singles smaller, I'm not quite there yet though. I want to spin sock yarn - bad!! Alpaca would be great for some mits I would think, especially some fingerless ones.
I can't wait for Rhinebeck, my must get list is getting longer and longer. Too bad my budget isn't growing at the same rate. Geeze

Rhinebeck...::sniffle, whimper, moan:: I was going, but life has gotten in the way. I'll be stuck here at home sending looks of hatred at my ailing vehicle which has thwarted my good time yet again. Have a great time for all of us who won't be making it this year!
The yarn is looking great!!! I've never tried the kool-aid before.

Lovely stuff Beth! BTW, I love "Bobbin Shots" too ;)
No Rhinebeck for me unfortunately. I didn't get the guild newsletter about the bus trip until the day before the deadline. I can't afford to make the trip by myself either.. so no Rhinebeck for me again this year :(

Hey, there's nothing wrong with a little kool-aid dying! It looks great, you are becoming a Master Spinner!

Wow! That's awesome!

Beautiful bobbin shot! I'll be at Rhinebeck in search of my perfect spindle (I think it may be a Golding!)

That's the nicest looking kool-aid dyeing I've seen in a long time, and wonderfully balanced spinning too. I'll be at Rhinebeck - I cannot wait to get my hands on more fiber!

I love love love that colour! So soft and inviting. And alpaca begs to be touched.

Lovely, beth! I like the variation - it gives your plied yarn DEPTH.
And I know we will see each other at Rhinebeck! LL reunion!

Pretty, pretty, pretty.

That is some mightly fine spinning! I don't blame you for not wanting to turn 100% alpaca yarn into socks. Sooo hot! But now you can get some superwash merino at Rhinebeck and spin that into some awesome sock yarn!

Hey Beth! You make some beautiful yarn! And the bobbin shots are nice. Maybe a beanie cap out of the alpaca? OH or some fingerless mitts? That lake effect stuff is headed your way. Can you believe that when I moved here (to Maine) people said "well, now you'll know what wintah's really like". I said, shit, don't give me that, the year I left Syracuse, we got 4 feet of snow, in ONE storm, in MARCH. I have no rights (merely minor wants-I have way too much yarn right now) to go to Rhinebeck this year...but maybe next!

so very pretty

I'll be there! (at Rhinebeck that is)
Very nice yarn!

This yarn is amazingly gorgeous! I wish I had the patience to do that... I don't even know what roving is!

Pretty in Pink (and one of my favorite 80's movies I might add!)
I guess I don't have to tell you that I will not be attending Rhinebeck...mainly because I don't know what that is. A fiber/yarn/spinning/dancing alpaca show I am guessing?

If you're spinning gorgeous stuff like that, I can't imagine why you'd even want to be knitting a repetitive shawl. But you've got to motor away, I guess. Your spinning is drool-inducing, by the way.

Wahoo! I love your pink yarn. And yes, I will be at Rhinebeck on Saturday. I'm going to post a pic of myself (in the outfit I'll wear to Rhinebeck, no less) on my blog next week, so it will be easier for anyone who wants to say hi to recognize me. I am hoping other knitbloggers will take pity and do the same! How 'bout you? :)
Posted by: Joni at October 13, 2006 11:52 AM
I'll be at Rhinebeck on Sunday - it'll be my first time! Yay!!!!
Oh, and I like Joni's idea about posting a pic of yourself. Smart chica.

Oh my God! That is beautiful yarn...it almost makes me want to order a spinning wheel. Good thing I didn't see this before I went to RHinebeck!
