The Fair
Ah yes, it's that time of year. Upstate New Yorker's know what I'm talking about. Well that is everyone outside of the New York City suburbs.....
A week and a 1/2 of sausage sandwiches, beer, good and bad music and oh yes, farm animals, food, and rides! What's not to love?
I don't usually like going to the fair. I don't like crowds. But this year I am going. Why? Cause of these guys:
Who are they? Why they are The Flaming Lips that's who. I am soooooo excited. If you have never seen them live, RUN! Get your tickets now!!!! They are most excellent. Oh I guess I should mention the rest of the line up: Sonic Youth (not one of my fave's - hubby loves them), Ween (again, they are mildly entertaining) and The Magic Numbers (don't know anything about them)
Typically the Fair draws your country music crowd. I am not really properly equipped to appreciate the country music that is played at the fair. Give me some alt country or the old stuff any day (don't want to appear a snob....)
Oh and my big brother is in town from California for a week! Wahoo! I don't know what I will be getting done this weekend......I am almost done with the shawl. THANK YOU ALL for your very encouraging comments! I really have a bad feeling that I will run out of yarn. I will let you all know on Tuesday or Wednesday. Holiday weekend coming up! I am off tomorrow and Monday!

Ahh the Flaming Lips! Never seen 'em, but I wanna! Can't wait to hear about your exciting Fair excursion. I had to give away my free ticket 'cause I am not making it this year :( OK, I'm over it! haha

oooh have fun! long weekend and gigs and big brothers and what have you - sounds perfect.
i am going to see the rolling stones tomorrow! maximo park is playing support - i'm even more excited about that ;-)

Oh fun, I love the Flaming Lips. I'll be seeing them soon too, at the Austin City Limits Festival.
And The Magic Numbers are cool, they are two sets of scruffy looking British Brother and Sister that place nice kinda 60's pop that's heavy on the harmonies.

The Flaming Lips! Yay! I saw them a couple of years ago during the Unlimited Sunshine tour. Out of Modest Mouse, De la Soul, Cake and others, the Lips were the best. They totally stole the show! And I interviewed Wayne Coyne afterwards and he was really nice.

The Flaming Lips! How awesome!!!
The only fair I go to around here is the Commonground Fair in September, and that is totally for the organic yarn. Yum!

OMG you are so lucky, the Flaming Lips!!! We are headed to Bumbershoot (giant music festival in Seattle) in the morning and there is no one I want to see this year. OK maybe the Steve Miller band but they are playing Monday after we leave.

Ah. The Magic Numbers are a UK band with melodic tunes who spent a while in the Top 20 this year and have two pairs of siblings in the band. They're not as good as Flaming Lips, but they're ok.
If you like the Flaming Lips live, you should go see Beck. I've seen him and his band perform in light suits and bear suits! I saw them at the weekend and there were little puppets of each band member on stage! They do crazy dancing too! V. entertaining.

hey bethie....did you have a good weekend? the Lips were supposed to be at the house of blues in AC yesterday but cancelled, must of had too good a time at the fair...hehehe
did you have salt potatoes? yum...you know i can get them now at Wegmans...it's just not the same making them myself..
