I'm on a roll!

I finished the Little Arrowhead shawl! However it is unblocked and ends need to be woven in. So I will give a sneak peak, then perhaps by next week I can share the specs!

Here you go:

I have my work cut out for me as I have never blocked a shawl before and I need some "T" pins. Wish me luck....

Like I said, I'm on a roll. I started a new project last night:

AND I FINISHED IT LAST NIGHT TOO!

Okay, so it was using super bulky yarns and ginormous needles.... At least it is finished!

Specs:
Yarn: Blue Sky Bulky Hand Dyes - Light Pink
Needles: Boye US35 (I finally got to use them)
Pattern: Roving Scarf from the book "Knit Ponchos, Wraps, and Scarves by Jane Davis

Notes: I liked this pattern a lot for the obvious reason that I finished it in like an hour. I got the book from the library (which I am going to do more of...) It felt like I was knitting with 2 big pencils you buy at the souvenir shop's at Niagra Falls. Totally weird, but I would do it again.

I don't think you necessarily need t pins. Check Stephanie (harlot) or Cara (januaryone) on their archives for blocking shawls.
You use a blunt needle and scrap yarn and weave it loosely into the edges, immerse your shawl, then when blocking, instead of using a million pins, you pull the string taught and pin it down. This way you end up with straight edges and no jags from the pins.
(Makes more sense if you see the pictures of it being done!)

You gotta love those quick projects. The shawl is beautiful, such a lovely, rich color.

The shawl is looking great. I love the plumminess of it. For blocking, I never use T-pins until I got a blocking wire kit that came with them.

The scarf looks like a nice speedy knit. I could use one of those right now!

Oh, the shawl is lovely! can't wait to see the blocked model shot ;)

I have used the 35s and the 50s before - so fun and so fast! I actually have two skeins of that same Bulky Alpaca and no idea what to do with it. I think I know now!

Yeah, it's pretty easy to finish something in a night when the needles are like broomstick handles! It looks great! Gotta love quick projects.

welcome back....looks like the geek family had a nice time...and your shawl is lovely...you're becoming quite the spinner....i can't imagine holding needles that large...must be different

Posted by: lemon at July 17, 2006 12:29 PM

oh - they both look great :D
As for blocking, you can either do as above with the yarn, or you can use blocking wires (or welding rods ;) ) to get the nice straight edges....
