Knitting is an obsession....
Saturday, June 3rd. My neighborhood garage sale. Did I score? YES. I got 2 great dye pots. No need for a picture. They were POTS.
I felt the need to talk about this though:

I picked this up at a garage sale for $5 dollars. Let's have a look inside shall we?

Those are some honkin needles eh? I think they are sizes 50 and 35. You could really hurt someone with those...Okay, let’s dig deeper. What's in the yellow box?

HOLY CRAP! Look at all those needles! Some of them weren't even open! Yeah, I know, what do I need with all these? I have a plan, an evil plan..... No just kidding. So here is a shot of it all laid out:

Now I didn't know the person I bought this from. I am thinking this was her mother's or her grandmother's. I am also thinking she may no longer be with us..... Now the yarn is all crap and there isn't enough of it for anything big (except gods eyes). I did find an almost finished baby hat. When I dug a little deeper in the pockets I found some really touching things ... almost made me want to cry...... Lookie:

Awwww....it's her makeup!!!!! That gold thing is a little compact with some bright pink blush or something in it!!! Then I found her note book!!!! sniffle sniffle.....

I hope Travis and Jessica appreciate their mittens!!!!!!
So this woman as far as I can tell was an obsessed knitter. She had to be! I keep a notebook, I have a ton of needles and I will probably still buy more. I hope that when my time comes my things will go to some one who will appreciate all of this like I do.
I half expected to find some cash tucked away in there or even a hankie, but I didn't. Ah well. I thought it was a good story to share.
Next up tomorrow (or the next day). Why my Dad is a hero.

Oh, that was so nice of you to "adopt" all that knitting paraphanelia.....and you did get quite a treasury of needles! When my aunt passed away, the only thing I requested from her estate was her knitting bag...and I found notes about a poor boy sweater that she was planning to make for me back in the 70's.
Don't you wonder what the lady was knitting with those huge honkin' needles? Or, hmmmm, was she knitting with them or using them for some other nefarious activity? LOL

It's sad that the people having the sale didn't even take the time to look thru the bag.
You did great, tho. All those needles!

Those needles are GINORMOUS!!!! You should totally knit something with them! Like a 6 stitch hat. Makes you wonder what will happen to our knit goods when the time comes... I'm glad hers went to someone who cares about the knitting.

I love stuff like that. I have a huge stash of needles, purchased from estates on Ebay. You can never have enough, is my motto.
I think my niece is planning on absconding with my stash when I die, in fact she may be plotting to kill me to get her hands on it.

I adopted a stash last year and I felt so touched when I went through her knit-belongings. I did find 3 little whiskey bottles in her stash... LOL.

Wow, what an amazing experience! I am glad that her knitting treasures finally made their way to someone who values them. Beautiful post ;) I have some 35s and 50s - they make very quick scarves and afghans too!

Nice. I am sure she is happy that her obsession is being put to good use! It's not about things it's about people. Great post!

Wow, super score! That stuff is great.

What an amazing haul! That's how I got started knitting, I bought a giant basket full of needles and such from an estate sale and curiosity of what was in the basket kept me knitting as much as anything. As for the tree trunks I say knit an afgan that doubles as a fishing net. What could be more handy than that.
