Please bear with me

I am sorry, but I am really loving the spinning thing right now! A lot of you have asked: "What are you going to make with all of this?" I haven't a clue! I have a little more yellow left to spin.

I picked up some blue fiber at this little shop in my home town last weekend. I like to go check and see if she has anything new. I honestly just went in to see the fiber. I bought the blue and spun it up right quick:

Nice eh? I think it is merino. It could be silk/tencel bled. I really wasn't paying attention because she had like 4 wheels in the shop. I asked her if they were all hers. She said no, they were for sale! YIKES! 1 was brand new and the rest were used. I tried them all out because, well you just can't have one wheel right? I sorta kinda really liked the Ashford Traditional. I am really on the fence about buying it though. I want a wheel that would be my next step. I think this is a beginner wheel. Not sure. Put it sure was purty and the price was kinda reasonable. I am still thinking about it.

Okay, so I have actually knitted a little bit too! I am only showing a little bit because I really think you should see the full effect of this once it is done:

I am being good and trying to keep on track with my project spectrum colors. It's hard (as shown above with the blue handspun)

Lastly, I gave the pirate hat to my friend and coworker Marya. She graciously agreed to model it for us!

Isn't she gorgeous? She LOVES the hat too. Phew!

Love the hat! Someday I'll get past my intimidation and complete a project that involves more than one color. I tried to make a little baby hat and my stranding was too tight :-(
Can't wait to see what the stripey project is.

The Ashford Traditional is *not* a beginner's wheel. It is sturdy and easy to learn on, but with all of the accessories you can add on later it will do anything you need it to.

Start with the "stock" flyer for most yarns. Add the high-speed flyer for finer yarns, the lace-weight flyer and core bobbins for really fine yarns, or the bulky flyer for the thick stuff. Add a distaff or double treadle if you like, too.

It's true that they are "common," but getting spare parts is a snap...

I've been spinning for 10 years, and it's the only wheel I've ever owned. Built like a tank and not hard to look at, either.

{in a whiny voice}: I want to learn how to spin. Can you drive down to Birmingham and give a lesson?

beautifully spun yarn, clean/tight striped knit, a rockin' high fashion hat, and a smooch - can't beat that! M

You're making me want to spin, what with that gorgeous acid yellow!

The sulphury yellow and slately blue look wonderful, both as independent colours and together. I'd love a sweater in the slate blue with a trim or flash of the yellow. Lovely! And it looks beautifully spun.

your really getting good at the spinning thing....and what the heck...go for it...buy the wheel...

My goodness that is gorgeous!!
And an Ashford traditional is not necessarily a "beginner" wheel. It IS good for beginners, but mostly because you can add so much stuff to it as your spinning progresses. Its really one of the wheels I wanted to start with, but I decided a castle wheel was better for me to stash away from curious toddler hands. SOMEDAY I'll have a nice traditional wheel!

but do tell..what other wheels did she have, and where on earth is this little haven of lost spinning wheels???

That blue is so beautiful - as I was photographing my new socks I noticed that there is a beautiful mustard yellow color next to a dark slate blue and that I loved the color combo - and BEHOLD - you posted the same color combination.

what a coinky-dink, huh?

I adore that blue spun yarn. Yum! And I've got some news you'll be excited about over at my blog...

Why are you apologizing! I want to dye some of that!

the hat looks awesome. and the spinning ain't bad either.

Make with it? You mean you have to MAKE something with it?

Oh no, you don't. Touch, feel, smell, play.

Because, otherwise, that would mean I have to KNIT all of my stash.

Do whatever you want, Beth! No apologies! :) I love the yellow!!

The hat is so cute!
