Need some help...

I have started a new sock. Don't tell me you are not surprised. Hey at least I finish them. Anyway...I am not sure if I should move forward. That is where you come in. See this yarn is very busy. You can't really see the pattern. But this morning when I took the picture you could see the pattern. This is the Cascading Leaves Sock pattern. The yarn is Mountain Colors Barefoot. I bought it back in January. Should I keep going? Or should I rip. Let's discuss......

Hi Beth..
I say KEEP GOING! That is some Beautiful yarn you got there! It probably is hard to see the pattern because you're just starting, but I think it's going to show up just fine..
So.. my opinion is..
knit on!!

Hi!
you don't know me, but I just started my own knitting blog last week & I've linked you on my page! I hope that is all right. lol. I love reading everyone's blogs!
I mainly wanted to say hi and also include my input. I think the socks look gorgeous & you can totally see the pattern! perhaps wait a little longer and see if you like them farther down. I personally, think they look great!
.♥.

I vote to rip. I'm doing these socks in a solid colourway and it really shows up beautifully. You can see mine here - http://passioknit.blogspirit.com/cascading_leaves_socks/
Plus, that sock yarn is awesome and could be showcased great with another pattern for sure.

i don't know. i kinda like it. but i think that maybe a simple cable pattern would be best for that yarn.. hhmmm..
Posted by: gleek at February 24, 2006 01:05 PM
Hmm... it's a tough call. I think it looks absolutely gorgeous now, but if you really want the pattern to jump out, I think a solid yarn would be better.
I vote to keep going... it might not be exactly what you wanted for the pattern, but you might accidently fall into something just as lovely, you know?

I think the sock looks great, but the yarn does obscure the pattern a little bit. The question is, do you care? If you like it, I say go for it. I love that yarn. Do you remember the name of the colorway?
Posted by: Courtney at February 24, 2006 01:14 PM
How does it look stretched out a little (like when you'd be wearing it on your foot)?
Posted by: Karma at February 24, 2006 01:26 PM
I looooove how the pattern is looking with that yarn. It doesn't look too busy in the picture at all. I say try it stretched out though to see how it looks then.

I think that if you want to see more detail of the pattern, you should rip.
I think that the yarn is showing up in a really interesting way and that you might want to keep going for another few inches to see if it stays like that [really cool looking] or if the yarn starts to look unsatisfing to you.

I'm really liking it. But like someone already mentioned, how does it looked stretched out? Would that change your perception of it?
Posted by: Stacey at February 24, 2006 02:55 PM
I like it too- it seems like a good marriage. But then again, I'm a little eh on knitting solid socks, as I think I might get bored. But that's just me.

I vote for ripping - the yarn is beautiful and the stitch pattern is beautiful but they are kind of lost in each other...
Posted by: Carriellen at February 24, 2006 04:44 PM
i vote to rip. i think that pattern would be better in a solid colour yarn. IMHO
Posted by: jacqueline at February 24, 2006 05:43 PM
Well, you're right, you kind of can't see the pattern all that well, but sock yarn is gorgeous. I suppose that is to be expected with the mountain colors. I just looooove mountain colors!

The yarn is great. The pattern is cool. But maybe this combo isn't quite right in bringing out the best in both. I vote rip.

I'm leaning both ways here... it really does look great in the pic and it's true that going further might help the pattern to pop out a bit more... then again, I tend to prefer solid color yarns for textured patterns to accentuate the pattern. Personally, I think you win either way you choose to go, so things could definitely be worse ;-)

Lost in each other is the perfect way to describe it, like Carriellen said. The yarn is gorgeous but it's sort of EATING the cables <=)

Tough call--I like the subtlety of the cables with the yarn, but ultimately, if you want the cables to really show, I think you'd be better off with a solid colour.

keep going - keep going.
This sock is beautiful. The pair will look so pretty on your feet. If they are knee highs, oh gaud they'd be good!

I love the mountain colors yarn and I love the cascading leaves pattern....but not together. I think you will be happier with a somewhat solid yarn to showcase the leaves as they twirl down the sock. Check out ones from a while back I finished in my photo gallery.

if you don't love it, rip it-either way it doesn't look too bad
Posted by: joy at February 25, 2006 11:31 PM
Better to rip now than waste hours knitting and then decide to rip. The yarn is beautiful and so is the pattern, but they kind of compete with each other. Just my .02! bunchkinknits.blogspot.com

I;m voting for keep it! I think it looks great and you can totally see the pattern!
Knit on!
Posted by: Kelly at February 26, 2006 07:09 AM
I LOVE IT!!!
Keep the pattern. Knit the yarn!
Whoo-hoo!!!
(too much? I still meant it!)
Posted by: Laurie at February 26, 2006 11:40 AM
I think the pattern and the yarn would look better apart from each other so I vote rip. It's amazing when you get the right yarn with the right pattern and I just don't think this is it.
Posted by: katie at February 27, 2006 09:37 AM
I love the way the yarn is knitting up, but maybe Im being fulled by the colors. If you're questioning it then maybe you should rip it.
Posted by: yahaira at February 27, 2006 11:30 AM
I think the colors are great! Keep on keepin' on!
Posted by: Carol at February 27, 2006 01:18 PM
I knit the Cascading Leaves pattern with some speckly Koigu, and it is lovely, but it IS hard to see the pattern. I love my socks, but I wish I could see the lovely non-cables.
I vote rip. Sorry, Beth!

I love the sock so far -- I gotta admit, though, that I love over-the-top color and texture combinations! That said, it really does seem to work well, so I vote for knitting onward!
Posted by: Anna at February 27, 2006 06:20 PM
I really like it. I think that the colors and the cables complement each other really well and the texture gives it depth rather than competing with it.
Posted by: Paula at February 27, 2006 07:26 PM
Keep going!
Posted by: diana at February 28, 2006 10:50 AM
Please continue....I love the colors and I would really like to buy them when you're done. Ugh! Well, when I pay off my school bills. By the way, I'm a fellow crochet nut. I've always wanted to learn to knit. And I heard someone wanted to learn how to spin?? Maybe we should chat sometime. I have a Navaho Wool Spinner.

I love that sock. In fact, I found your blog by googling on that yarn color because I'm making a shoulder shawl out of it with a lace pattern. Sure, the lace pattern isn't as visible with the beautiful yarn, but I like the look myself. Probably just a matter of personal taste. So ultimately, do what pleases YOU.
