I had a moment.......

You have all had them. Come on, come clean.

What was I thinking?

That is my moment.

What am I talking about?

The pattern, I don't think, is bad. Why else would I have taken it from AC Moore. Here we go:

rightsideup.jpg

Obviously I didn't use the recommended yarn. I don't have to. It's my choice. This thing can stand up by it's self! What yarn did I use?

yarniused.jpg

Yep. Scratchy icky acrylic yarn. Yarn left over from a Hallowig project gone bad. I don't know WHAT I WAS THINKING! Lilly Pulitzer? I am sure she would faint. I am surprised I didn't break out in hives making this either.

Oh but it get's better. Do you want to know why? I took a picture of my self in this foolish thing. Go ahead, point and laugh. You know you want to.

What did you expect?

I think I need to put toilet paper in it and put a doll on top then put it on the back of my toilet. It certainly doesn't belong on my head. Or I could use it for a fruit bowl

It does stay up. Nice and sturdy this hat is.

That. is. scary.
But this is scarier. In high school I had a corduroy wrap skirt in that color green and I wore it with a pink oxford cloth button down. Yikes!

that hat is umm quite stiking to say the least

Posted by: yahaira at February 16, 2006 01:15 PM

It has kind of a cute retro miniature-granny-blanket-in-hat-form feel to it. It would look cute on a 5 year old, but no grown woman should wear that hat! Looks like it could be a potted plant cozy.

I'm sure i had the matching leg warmers in the 80's... we could make a set :)

But seriously, can you call yourself a true knit, if you haven’t had one of these moments?

Posted by: Lissa at February 16, 2006 01:24 PM

Wow - that is a moment indeed. I think it would make a cute bag though - turn it over, line it and give it some I-cord handles.

Posted by: PumpkinMama at February 16, 2006 01:36 PM

Any number of Grandmas or Great Aunts would love that for a TP holder. Live and learn. Thanks for the lesson! :)

Posted by: Christie at February 16, 2006 01:43 PM

or just frog it and use the yarn to make ipod cozies for all your friends! that's the only thing that i seem to be able to do with red heart :)

Posted by: gleek at February 16, 2006 02:05 PM

Wow, that hat is sure, um, bright. But I will admit I've had very similar moments, just different colors and patterns.

Posted by: katiedid at February 16, 2006 02:08 PM

yeah! god you are great!

there's always use for a nice, sturdy hat/fruit bowl. although that toilet paper dolly is a fab idea.

Posted by: kris at February 16, 2006 02:10 PM

We all have "moments," and yours certainly cracked me up! Good luck finding another creative use :).

Posted by: grumperina at February 16, 2006 02:14 PM

Help, my eyes, my eyes. I'm thinking it could be one of those skirts for a doll, and then you hide the toilet paper under it. You know you want to do it.

Posted by: Rebekah at February 16, 2006 02:36 PM

The purse idea is great, but what about an Easter basket? Any little siblings, cousins, or children that you are close to?? Just add the plastic green grass and you are good to go!!

Posted by: Heather at February 16, 2006 02:44 PM

You are so freakin' funny, I laughed so hard I woke Lee up from his nap! The picture of you says it all...

Posted by: Julia at February 16, 2006 02:48 PM

Brace yourself:

When DH and I got married I moved into a HOUSE that was painted those very colors, because he lived with his Grandma and she needed looking after. It was truly disturbing. I nearly went crazy there. You can hide YOUR hat-thing in a drawer or your coat pocket, what do you do to pretend your HOUSE isn't a giant watermelon?

cry

Posted by: April at February 16, 2006 03:17 PM

No. Oh no no no no no.

MY EYES! The horror!

Posted by: meg at February 16, 2006 03:37 PM

You could put a handle on it and use it as a basket.

Posted by: Courtney at February 16, 2006 04:10 PM

Put your hair in braids when you wear it and we can call you "Puke-a-hontas"!

Posted by: Carol at February 16, 2006 04:28 PM

Wow. Um. Well. Um.

I like pink!

Posted by: Scout at February 16, 2006 04:35 PM

You made me laugh.

Posted by: TraciSue at February 16, 2006 05:57 PM

Hi!, new here.... oh yes, we've all fallen for it at one time or another, the what-where-we-thinking project! Yours reminds me of a fez! Maybe recycle it as an Easter basket?

Posted by: lynda at February 16, 2006 06:33 PM

I can definitely picture a Barbie sticking out of the top of it!

Posted by: Karyn at February 16, 2006 08:58 PM

I *love* your expression in that picture. The pic belongs in the dictionary along with the entry for "ew". :)

Posted by: Karma at February 16, 2006 10:03 PM

As a hat - not so good. As a bowl - cool! Really, I love it. I would keep balls of yarn oddments in it or something. It's amazing what a simple inversion can do for a crocheted item.

I like the bag idea, too. Crochet some small, stiff handles for it and it will be like a retro, granny, crochet, mini-market basket.

Posted by: Noo at February 17, 2006 05:33 AM

I am sure there is some homeless person out there who would love to have a hat like that.

Posted by: minijaxter at February 17, 2006 07:26 AM

Hunh. Yup, I've been there. Just tell yourself you made a Lily Pulitzer toliet paper holder.

Posted by: diana at February 17, 2006 07:33 AM

You could put your scrunchies in it - how retro 80's!!!!

Posted by: Peg at February 17, 2006 10:58 AM

hehehe. yes, use it as a fruit basket!

Posted by: j a r e d at February 17, 2006 02:13 PM

I've had crochet projects go awry like that...
I picture it on the reception desk of a Senior Center, with a nice little potted plant nestled inside :-)

Posted by: Amy at February 17, 2006 02:29 PM

ha!

it does make an excellent bowl though.

Posted by: maryse at February 17, 2006 03:18 PM

Oh.My.Gawd. Have you learned your lesson now? Have you? Say it with me:

"I have learned to never, ever use Red Heart again."

It's the beginning of the 12 step program for you, my dear.

Posted by: Jon at February 17, 2006 03:45 PM

Stuff some of that fake grass into it and use it for easter eggs.

Shame on you! LOL!

Posted by: Laurie at February 18, 2006 10:12 AM

I feel with you, I just had to comment because I also just used that EXACT same pattern hat in all one color, using that pattern. It came out awful.

Posted by: Alice at February 18, 2006 04:23 PM

oh my oh my oh my...well don't you look just gorgeous dahling!

i think this hat is destined to become the new spring catwalk sensation in milan.
