Arts and Crafts at Château Big Geek

My son reintroduced me to the godseye!

Remember these things? I haven't made one since summer camp! His came out much better than mine.......(smile) That is why I am showing only his. He did such a great job! I love it!

It was a very fibery weekend. I did more spinning and plying. I am not really happy with the way the blue plyed. It didn't twist enough. Not sure how I can fix that. Hopefully someone will give me some advice. Here is a picture though

The brown is getting to where I want to be at. The blue just didn't cut it. I washed the brown to set the twist. But I don't think there is any twist to be had with the blue. Sigh.......

I have some alpaca that I did a little hand carding on and spun up a little. But I didn't take a picture. Aplaca is like BUTTER people! I am going to love spinning this.

Lastly, I ordered some sock yarn from Brooklyn Hand Spun. Oh my god! Like I need more sock yarn. But I can't even take a decent picture of it.

Ain't it purdy?
Socks......yummmmmmmmm.......

I have no idea how to fix plying gone wrong (if you learn, let me know!) The other stuff looks good to me! Didn't you just love alpaca? I found it really hard at first(kept slipping away from me) but have enjoyed it since I figured it out.

Gorgeous colors with the sock yarn. And excellent hand spuns!

How did you ply the blue? From a centerpull ball or two bobbins? Did you have it on the bobbin for a long time? I might be able to help if I knew where it went wrong. Sometimes you can just put it through again and add more twist - if it was on the bobbin for a long time it tends to set like that but once it's washed up the old springiness comes back. Sometimes if you do it from two bobbins you have to make sure you've spun them both in the same direction and plied them in the opposite direction. Sorry for the long comment I can get into teacher mode sometimes hehee.

Your son is so cute! I made one of those at summer camp too! Think I still have it!

Why must you tempt me with more gorgeous yarn? Heaven help me. That Brooklyn Hand Spun is deeelish. And you know, your own handspun is lovely, too. I like the blue, even though the twist isn't up to your specs. It's pretty!

You are doing such great stuff!! I am guilty of scrolling down and staring at your Dublin Bay socks and drooling. I love the patterna nd, you know I adore the color!

Maybe I skipped the Godeye day in summer camp, or Sunday school - I think that is so cool, and I don't think I ever made one!

Lovely yarns, Beth - and more sock yarn... wow. I can totally understand why you got that!

Holy crimoly! And here I thought we only got yarn porn on your site! LOL

I remember doing those things in Cub Scouts. Yes, unfortunately I was a Cub Scout. Or as we used to call them, Scum Scout. {sigh}

Those were the days, weren't they?

Oh my god a gods eye! I remember my brother making those things in scouts and chasing me around the house with them because they scared me! (Yes, you are totally allowed to make fun of me for that)

I love the brown, a LOT. And I don't think the blue looks too bad at all!
