Certifiably Insane

Yes, that is me. What is wrong with me? I feel pulled in too many directions lately. I hope I don't implode or explode. Both would not be pretty. I looked over my last post, which was done on the fly. I am sorry, but I think I just have to relax and think about what I want to say! Not all half assed. Hell I haven't even responed to my e-mails from the comments you all left on the last post. Which probaby left some scratching your head. (But probably not - you may not care!) My week has been very busy, work wise. That's good. It makes the day go quicker. I had to stay home with the sick boy on Tuesday. He has strep. He is good now. So, that said, this is what I did:

25_IWK.jpg

Those, my friends are every single Interweave Knits magazine ever published. Yes, for real. I can't seem to get rid of them. Do you see those white things sticking up? Those are what I would like to make. Yeah, pretty weird. Am I nuts? That's what I did Tuesday morning, I went through the Melanie Falick/Pam Allen (they are brilliant don't you think?) Interweave Knits only and put sticky notes by the patterns I want to make. Kookoo!

Do you notice that the ones in the beginning don't have sticky notes? That's because those first issues were crap. Why don't I get rid of them you say? Hell if I know.

Okay, lets move on to shot number 2:

binderfull.jpg

This is a picture of all of the patterns I have printed out from the internet that are free or I paid for them. I put them in neat little plastic sleeves and organized them by what they were: sweaters, scarves, mittens, you get the idea. I ask you, will I ever make all of this in my life time? Probably not. Then why, why, why do I need to have all of this? Why? Options, I believe they are options. I get so excited when the new knitting magazines come out. I literally shake with excitement. Oh yeah, books too. Gotta have it! Why????? Are there other people out there like me? I will say it again. Kookoo!

By the way, I mowed the lawn, did the laundry, made dinner and dessert for my family and watched my sick child. On Tuesday. All of this on Tuesday. No knitting that day. Sigh................

If you're kookoo... forget it, I gotta run and check myself into a mental hospital RIGHT NOW.

Looks like my pattern stash, except I also have a huge number of patterns saved in my documents folders too, because you never know when you will want one of those patterns and I have so nicely organized them so they are totally diferent from all that junk my hisband has lying around here. ;-)

that's not kookoo that's *kewl* ;)

seriously, i did the same thing recently with my ik, rebecca, and phildar mag stash and it was yes a little sad and humbling, but mostly a very happy time for me! and i *can't* be crazy, so you can't be either.

you like my fuzzy logic?

Posted by: andrea at May 19, 2005 06:49 PM

oh lets hope you are not kookoo cause i have those issues and have a few more binders (had to look twice to make sure that was not my ottoman, hee hee. i like how you put it. they are options! if it makes you happy to keep 'em...hang on to them.

Posted by: froggy at May 19, 2005 07:57 PM

Well, if that is kookoo then I wish I were kookoo, too. You should see the pile of crap I have going on over here.

I should put down my needles for once and get some organizing done. Maybe then I'd be able to concentrate. Good for you.

If you are kookoo, then I am... and all I know who knit *lol* oh, and a few more, they just collect other things that knitting patterns and so on... :)

coucou, c'est moi! those pics turn me on!

Posted by: kris at May 20, 2005 05:08 AM

Wow, I admire your tenacity, Beth. That takes a lot of work... it looks great. Yeah, you definitely have more patterns than me :)

Posted by: Lolly at May 20, 2005 07:09 AM

Impressive! I like that you have sections for your loose patterns. I just have mine jammed in a file & a few mixed in with recipes on the coffee table. I am glad that you like the roving!

Posted by: Audrey at May 20, 2005 07:19 AM

I too believe in options. No two ways about it. You keep doing what you're doing Miss Thang!

Posted by: Jon at May 20, 2005 09:39 AM

Wow, aren't you organized? I have yet to do that, but I can tell you, my magazine and pattern collection looks a lot like yours! Even if you only make one thing out of each magazine you buy, it's still worth it I think. And if you don't, oh well!

Glad to hear your son's doing better!

Posted by: Erin at May 20, 2005 09:41 AM

I just put all my vintage patterns in mylar sleeves in a binder ...organized alphabetically by publisher, then chronological when possible. So no, I don't think you are odd, but hey, a little mania does the girl good, right?

You wouldn't be on prednisone by any chance?

Posted by: meg at May 20, 2005 10:27 AM

Sounds like a very full day. I did that recently with all my pattern books, all 246 of them and growing, if I actually knit all the patterns I like I wouldn't have time to do anything but knit, and I still wouldn't be done before I die. Oh well, it's good to have dreams.

Posted by: Rebekah at May 20, 2005 10:38 AM

Just think about how fast you'll be able to find "that one pattern" you printed out once upon a time. This means more knitting time in the long run! Its awesome. We should all be so organized.

Posted by: Diana at May 20, 2005 11:37 AM

No worries. If you came to my house you would find the same thing. The huge binders, the magazines, and the books. Yep, all there. Reading all of the other comments sounds like we are not alone. Just be glad that you have it all neat and organized.

I have lately taken to referring to your yarn room as Beth's Yarn Shrine.

Crazy? Nah.

Posted by: Rachel at May 20, 2005 01:51 PM

we were seperated at birth - I do the same thing I use color coded post its I use pink for sweaters, blue for socks - etc. and no, I too will never get to all I want to do.

Posted by: Ines at May 20, 2005 01:54 PM

If your pattern stash is krazy then it sounds like we could fill an assylum. I feel like I have to have the latest magazine and I am always downloading and printing the latest free pattern. I like the exercise of thinking about all the possibilities just about as addicting as the actual knitting.

Posted by: dragonridermom at May 20, 2005 04:18 PM

Your blog is called " B I G G E E K ", no?

I appreciate your desire to organize.

Posted by: Miss Twiss at May 20, 2005 08:34 PM

i think the general consensus is you are NOT kookoo :)

You ARE, however, super organized and I am envious.

Posted by: Stacey at May 21, 2005 01:11 AM

Well, if that's INsane, I don't like the looks of sane much. Gimme loopy any day - it's a lot more fun!

Posted by: Meg at May 21, 2005 01:10 PM

I want to be that nuts. I can't find myself in all the piles of Finished Object Wannabees around here...

Having all of those designs you love around you helps to inspire. At least that's what I tell myself ;-)

I think we have a lot in common, I too have a pattern addiction only my patterns are not so nicely organized (although they were at one point). I just read your "81 things about me" and as much as I love asperagus, it makes my pee smell funny too.

if you are kookoo then so am i
i thought i was the only one with patterns in a binder. i even bought sheet protectors for mine.
and i have one 3"binder full of patterns. But i keep downloading/printing more.

You're all kookoo and I'm kookoo2!!! I'm even a bigger one .... I have not only the beautiful knitting patterns in binders, but also crochet, embroidery AND cross stitch. Never mind the 2 drawers full of KITS and my thread & yarn stash. The more I finish the more I start and the more I dream of all my options. Oh, THANK U ... I love having OPTIONS :)
